Carpenter was one of the producers, and in addition to appearing in the film as the Coroner, he also contributed music. It could be viewed in some sense as a " John Carpenter" film given the level of his participation.

But his protest against Clownhouse was most likely all behind the scenes, and considering it was the actual film where he was molested in, MGM was smart to cancel the title weeks before its streetdate (it was one of several MGM horror titles all streeting on the same date). Some copies of Clownhouse did leak out at the time, though, and fetch big $$$ now.
You are right. I was thinking about the campaign against Powder. Thanks for the correction.

Want to thank csdot for maintaining the header post in this thread. It's an awesome resource.

Does shout still have the rights to Audition? I know that's not necessarily in line with the types of horror films Scream releases on BD, but it's long overdue for a new transfer.

This seems like the best place to post this, since a lot of general horror discussion takes place, and Scream have perhaps made better use of MGM's horror titles than most.

With most of the catalogues putting out MGM titles, I thought it would be interesting to knock up a list of MGM horror and sci-fi/fantasy/action DVDs (the boundaries are blurred in some cases) still awaiting a Blu-ray upgrade. I know Scream generally aren't interested in pre-70s stuff (Price notwithstanding), but other labels might be, and this is true of these films in general (one or two even strike me as Criterion possibilities); furthermore, Shout presumably have a number of these given they're put them out on DVD through Timeless Media.

I've only done this for titles from the 50s to 2000, with the notable exception of Bubba Ho-Tep. I've probably missed out a few so if you spot anything let me know:

The Man From Planet X (1951) (with Shout)
Donovon's Brain (1953)
The Magnetic Monster (1953)
The Beast with a Million Eyes (1955)
The Phantom from 10,000 Leagues (1955)
The Black Sleep (1956)
Pharoah's Curse (1957)
The Vampire (1957) (with Shout)
Voodoo Island (1957)
Attack of the Puppet People (1958)
Curse of the Faceless Man (1958)
I Bury The Living (1958) (with Shout)
The Return of Dracula (1958)
The Angry Red Planet (1959) (with Shout)
A Bucket of Blood (1959)
The Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake (1959) (with Shout)
Invisible Invaders (1959)

Doctor Blood's Coffin (1961)
Konga (1961)
Master of the World (1961)
Journey to the Seventh Planet (1962)
Panic in Year Zero! (1962)
The Tower of London (1962)
Diary of a Madman (1963)
Twice Told Tales (1963)
Blood Bath (1966)
Queen of Blood (1966)
Yongary, Monster from the Deep (1967)
A Quiet Place in the Country (1968)
Hour of the Wolf (1968)
The Oblong Box (1969)
Whatever Happened to Aunt Alice? (1969)

Cry of the Banshee (1970)
Count Yorga / Return of Count Yorga (1970/1971)
The Dunwich Horror (1970)
Scream and Scream Again (1970)
The Incredible 2-Headed Transplant (1971)
Murders in the Rue Morgue (1971)
What's the Matter with Helen? (1971)
Whoever Slew Auntie Roo? (1971)
An Evening with Edgar Allen Poe (1972) (Extra on the UK Release of The Pit and The Pendulum)
Daughters of Satan (1972)
The Night Stalker / The Night Strangler (1972/1974)
The Thing with Two Heads (1972)
Raw Meat (1973) (Kino release strongly hinted at)
Theater of Blood (1973) (UK Release Available)
The Bat People (1974) (with Shout)
J.D.'s Revenge (1976)
The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (1976) (Kino release strongly hinted at)
The People That Time Forgot (1977) (probably coming from Kino at some point)

The Attic (1980)
Windows (1980)
The House Where Evil Dwells (1982)
10 To Midnight (1983)
Strange Invaders (1983)
Breeders (1986)
Ghost Warrior (1986)
Solarbabies (1986) (German Release Available)
Troll (1986)
The Caller (1987)
The Curse (1987)
Dead of Winter (1987) (Available Soon in the UK)
Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2 (1987)
Lady in White (1988)
Spellbinder (1988)
After Midnight (1989)
Clownhouse (1989)
Curse 2: The Bite (1989)
Edge of Sanity (1989)
Night Visitor (1989)

The Ambulance (1990)
Buried Alive (1990)
Sometimes They Come Back (1991) (German Release Available)
Disturbing Behaviour (1998)
Species 2 (1998)

Bubba Ho-Tep (2003) (UK Release Available)

And finally, those MGM titles which Shout put out on DVD for the first time (some of which they may choose to upgrade, especially the post-60s ones):

The Screaming Skull (1958)
The Amazing Transparent Man (1960)
Beyond the Time Barrier (1960)
The Snake Woman (1961)
The Brain That Wouldn't Die (1962)
The Time Travelers (1964)
The Evictors (1979)
The Dungeonmaster (1984)
Eliminators (1986)
Arena (1989)
The Vagrant (1992)
Contamination 7 (1993)

It will be interesting to see how many of these we get - it may be the case that some are no longer with MGM (like The Night Stalker and The Night Strangler apparently). But the way Scream, Kino and Olive are going I imagine we'll be chipping several more titles off the list by the end of the year. We might speculate as to which company will be interested in what. Maybe you've heard a few things dsman (though I understand you probably can't say anything!)?

I would really like to replace my bootleg VHS rip of highway to hell. It's just a solid 90s horror movie.

BarnDoor, maybe you missed the discussion regarding the release of Clownhouse a few pages back. MGM released that movie a few years back on DVD but had to pull it out the shelves because the actor who got sexually molested by the director during the making of the film had his lawyer contact them, and threatened a lawsuit if they didn't took the film out of circulation.
I don't see any studio touching that movie again, unfortunately, as you can see by my wishlist below

I don't know if I could ever watch that movie again after finding out what happened, to be honest.

Yeah, a lot of people feel that way about it.
I had already grew to love Clownhouse years before I found out about what happened, so wouldn't make a lot of sense to start hating the film all of a sudden.
But I can see how it can be uncomfortable for some people.

I've always found Clownhouse to be pretty mediocre so I don't revisit it often, but last time I did watch it, it was a bit creepy seeing the young male actors trotted out in their briefs in an early scene. Normally such a scene wouldn't be a problem, but once you know what was happening behind the scenes, that scene is way more disturbing than any of the horror/clown elements in the film. Salva was prosecuted and served jail time (one measly year) for molesting the boy and videotaping it to boot, so "justice was served", but now he's free and has made films like Jeepers Creepers, where a monster is salivating over a teenage boy, and Nature of the Beast where he used his prison experience to construct a film for money. How any studio, Disney, New Line, Zoetrope (Coppola) and others would associate with this guy and produce films with him after what he did is beyond me, but I guess money talks and crime pays.

It's weird that some people find it wrong studios to associate with Victor Salva but not Roman Polanski, Woody Allen or the late Michael Jackson. Maybe because they're higher celebrities or critically acclaimed their stories have the benefit of the doubt. Ignorance is a bliss.

Or because Woody Allen was, last time I checked, completely innocent legally, as indeed is Michael Jackson.

I know we live in an age where someone (usually a man, let's face it) is guilty until proven innocent in the eyes of the media, but not in the legal system thankfully (though that's debatable in the UK these days).

Well, Polanski's 'victim' has publicly stated numerous times that she has moved on and is OK and doesn't hold Polanski responsible, and Allen has at least married his conquest and they are supposedly happily living together for over 2 decades. Not defending any of these people, though, so your claim of "ignorance" is pretty ignorant in itself. All I know is the victim of Salva has not made amends with much of his life being destroyed by a predatory monster as Salva was (or still is based on his subsequent films). Bringing Polanski and Allen into the equation doesn't change anything.
