Default Hollywood Video... trends?

At my local Hollywood Video last night I noticed something interesting.

They had expanded the HD video section by one shelf width compared to the last time I visited.

The real interesting part - it is a new BD shelf. The HD DVD selection is now half the size of the BD selection.

I wonder if this is a trend...?

Default shrinkage for HD here

At my local Best Buy both HD and Blu-ray had two sections each.

Today. HD has been reduced to 1 section. Blu-ray still has 2 sections plus 2 small endcaps and 1 side of a floor display.

The local CC also has shrunk there HD section in half, but Blu-ray has stayed the same.

Talking I've seen a similar thing at my local Wal-Mart . . .

Of course not all Wal-Marts carry HD formats, but there is one near me that does.

Most every Tuesday I stop by to see what's new and what their prices are.

Today I checked also. They have a single shelving unit with the Blu-ray and HD DVD logos at the top. (I think that originally it was meant to give each equal space, kind of like the displays in Target stores.)

Anyway, I counted the total titles available for the HD formats:

Blu-ray has 24 slots (with a couple of popular titles sold out)

HD DVD has only 4 titles!

The Blu-ray section is full of BD titles, and the HD section has a mixture of HD, BD, and standard DVD in both widescreen and fullscreen versions.

Well I guess they don't think HD DVD is worth much floor space.

I went to my local Hollywood Video asking for Blu-Ray movies, and the kid behind the counter said "We don't carry pornos dude".

My local BB has 1.75 sections for blu-ray and ~0.75 for HD-DVD. It started as 1 to 1 in the "Next Generation" area. The weird thing is that the blu-ray section doesn't start at the top of the shelf. They went from where the section originally started and backed into the previous section on the shelf to the left... very stupid way to do it. The top of that shelf is some format I've never heard of beginning with a "u".

UMD came late... It ended up competeting with DVDs for its market share.
