The reviews are INSANELY positive on this film, unbelievably so, from all the major critics, too. This really sounds like a film not to be missed in theaters, especially after hearing so many critics saying how refreshing it is that it's not the usual cartoon 100% CGI junk the studios have been churning out for years now. I was kind of dreading seeing it because I absolutely hate 99.999999% of modern CGI action and superhero films, but was going to see it just because it was Mad Max. But now I'm really geared up for it and will see it Friday matinee.

I assume it is a 3-D conversion, right? I don't need to see any 3-D films of that sort in 3-D. However, if it was actually shot in 3-D (which I seriously doubt), I may have to splurge. Can anyone confirm? thanks!

Unfortunately it was post-converted. It was originally supposed to be shot in 3D.

I posted in the movie thread that you can't tell it's a conversion. It really works in 3D and really immersive in terms of pop outs.

It doesn't matter. It's the principle of the thing. Disney is already promoting Star Wars VII with 3D and the entire thing was shot in 2D. Just a reason to charge $5 more a ticket.

Lately, conversions have looked a lot better than movies shot in 3D

To be fair, some conversions do look amazing. Guardians of the Galaxy for example. I think the comparison to better looking has to do with the ease of shooting with 2D as opposed to 3D. Filmmakers can get better shots by shooting in 2D and converting in post to 3D than shooting in 3D to begin with.

This is exactly what makes 3D a gimmick.

Here's a simple solution:

For those that don't want to pay the premium 3D ticket, don't.

For those that don't want to buy the 3D combo pack, don't.

There's nothing wrong with providing a choice. Enough people must watch in 3D because the studios keep releasing films in 3D.

Would you pay a $5 premium for a colorized film that was shot in black and white?

Yeah, the same principle applies for 2D films that are converted to 3D.

There are several conversions that look better than some natively shot 3D films, so the argument doesn't really hold water anymore.

Also, I've seen two trailers for Star Wars VII in IMAX 3D, and the 3D was amazing, some of the best I've seen.
