I have the standard PS4 sitting next to the PS3 slim, and they're actually almost the same size. |

I just hadn't heard rumors of a new RE game to be announced yet. I'd imagine they'd bring out RE0 HD first since we already know that's in development. RE has a varied past as to when it's announced too. 6 was at some japanese event in january 2012. |

How likely is a PS4 hardware refresh at E3?

Not very.
I'd rather see a PS4 with a UHDBD drive as the next iteration, it would probably be slightly bigger and more expensive but worth the upgrade since UHDBD is backwards compatible with BD. Then the original PS4 could be reduced in price and sold off as the slim. ![]() |

I don't think that will ever happen until there is a need for games to be printed on UHD media. It's been pretty clear they are not interested in marketing the PS4 as home theater hardware. There is no money to be made downstream from owners who use their console as a BD player. One of the big lessons learned from the PS3 generation.
More likely than a UHD drive is a PS4 without an optical drive and with a larger HDD, because that would be nothing more than a revenue generator for SCE. The next piece of hardware needs to have a larger HDD, no matter what, because that is a potential huge limiting factor in how much money Sony can make via the PS Store. I don't think the average user us up to replacing a HDD. And having to do so just raises your cost to something that is not attractive, anyway. Before the outraged replies start, it's not necessary, I already know what some of you think. You like to hold things that you own in your hands and you like to resell things. Let's just make a gentlemen's bet instead. There are enough users in this forum who download most of their games and don't sell games to suggest there is a market for such a device. It's not for everyone. At the right price, it would increase the number of users who downloaded games. If it did not take me two hours to download 1GB, I would download all of my games just for the convenience of not having to shuffle disks. |

On the positive side, if they could reduce the cost of printing and shipping blu ray games or UD games on disc, then we might still see physical discs in 5 years time or less. |

I've always been one to prefer to have a physical copy. If only for the fact that I know I will always have it.
The only thing I don't like about going all digital is that we are at the mercy of the content providers. If it's in the cloud then it can get pulled at any time and we are screwed. If it's download then it's good until your HDD fails or you decide to upgrade then again it all depends on if the servers still have the content available. I'm looking at platforms like OnLive that offered cloud based gaming. A lot of people paid to buy games on there and it went bust, so everything they paid to "own" was gone just like that. And more recently P.T. being removed from PSN servers. It's not that I wouldn't like to go all digital, I just don't have faith in companies to have the content I paid for there for life as and when I want it. |

You're always going to have some failures, and some things you lose, whether physical or digital. I can still download all of my PS3 purchases (though I don't see myself ever getting the PS3's out again). And we can still download all of the patches for physical games. But, if Bungie (or Sony) so chooses, your access to Destiny, despite owning the disk, goes away completely. Or if Ubisoft decides to stop supporting it, AC Unity can turn into a brick, too, even with the disk.
Steam and Origin, for what it's worth, seem to have viable business models, so it's not a revolutionary or unproven concept. At the least I think it's a worthwhile option to offer PS gamers, and I personally expect to see it this generation. A lower cost device without an optical drive or a similarly priced device with larger capacity. |

PS3 definetly helped BD, install base, price, dependability of discs working..
It would have to be a new console built from the ground up with UHD as primary focus over games. All specs & what not compliant. The unit would be twice the size of PS4 & retail at least twice as much as PS4 currently lists... If it were to release within the adoption window. I wouldn't mind Sony PS4 jumping on-board but not during EA phase. I'd Let UHD play out the market for awhile before Sony even considers a PS4 console revamp. Sony should focus on the "needs" of PS4 now more so then the "wants" which right now is HDD space & their lack of it. |

Sony was all for the gamer being able to hold the item in their hands this generation and as of now, continue to support it as gamers mostly demand.
If it took five minutes to download Arkham Knight on PS4, I'd still buy the physical disc, as it's like a collector's item in itself, so for me, it's not just about playing the game. Just like owning the CD and packaging for your favorite band is a collector item these days. Though I'll admit that's a classic way of thinking. Even so, if everything went digital, hopefully it's a time when most of us can load a AAA giant game in 5 minutes compared to 5 days. Quote:

![]() No Man's Sky is about exploration and discovery. That's the appeal along with the fact that there's never been a game that has given us this level of freedom before. We've never been able to play in a universe this huge. If it's not your thing, that's cool. However the POTENTIAL upside of this game is enormous and appeals to a lot of people. |

My biggest concern is that Sony seems to love indies and digital only games which I don't like. We know Uncharted 4 will be there and Ratchet which is awesome for me but the PS experience was a HUGE let down for me and I suspect E3 will be the same besides the few usual big games.
Right now Sony has nothing for Fall unless they delay Until Dawn from Summer and move it to the Fall. Last years LBP3 surprise didn't do anything for them. |
