Finally seeing this tomorrow. Anyone who's seen it in both 2D and 3D can tell me which was the better experience? Rather see it in 3D because the showtime is more convenient but if it hurts the experience I'll see it in 2D.

I have and think it was a better experience in 3D.
It made it look less digital and actually worked really well with the photography.

My son and I went to the midday showing of this.. ( Trailer for SW VII looks EPIC on the big screen cant wait).

Anyways we both totally loved the film,,, my only gripe is that at the beginning of the film is it supposed to have been sped up,,and throughout the film also.?
I'm pretty sure the guy in the projector booth had it on the wrong bloody speed or somthing,, just didnt look right at all.

Loved all the action, and the soundtrack made it even more enjoyable.
I have to agree , it does seem that things had been cut which would've made it a better film if they were kept in..
Cant wait to own this

this is def not right. the film was fine all the way throughout. sounds like the projector was at the wrong speed for a portion of the film

they could of called it 'Furiosa' as its set in the same world as mad max. lets be honest she was the real star of the film.

if they do a sequel they need to focus on tom hardy way way more
Fine with me, I found Theron's character more interesting anyway. Max has always been a fairly blank character and his introduction is similar to that in MM2 The Road Warrior. To say Max was "just there in the background" is wild exaggeration though. The film is from his POV and he is in every scene. like in the previous two films he doesn't want to be a hero and he just wants to survive and be left alone and then he gets involved against his will.

Also, Max did get a back story. That would be the first Mad Max film which was alluded to via glimpses of his daughter several times in the film.

This. Folks are way overstating Max's lack of backstory and presence in the film. He is such an integral art of the film that
[Show spoiler] he shares flashbacks and visions with the audience.
It's a lean, tightly paced action film that doesn't pander to its audience by over explaining everyone and everything within. I wish there were more like this.

What you saw is a part of the film, Miller played with the frame rates even while shooting. This is a part of all the Mad Max films, they all have speed up at some point during action scenes. It's a stylistic choice.

Is there much difference ? I saw this at the BFI IMAX in London with the passive 3D glasses you get there and I already know that the film will look better on my projector. A film not shot in IMAX looks soft blown up to that size and my active 3D glasses really make the 3D pop while at the IMAX it often was barely noticeable apart from the pop outs.

Disagree that is felt like she was the main character. The story started with him and his narration, ended with him. Its his POV we see, his hallucinations of his dead family, and it was ultimately his decision that led to the conclusion and him that saved Furiosa's life. The story ended there because we leave when Max leaves. We won't stick around to see where Furiosa's life goes.

Though the way the people of the citadel perceive things went it was all Furiosa's doing when Max and Furiosa part ways, we and the camera stay with him instead of following her.

For a character that speaks as seldom as him it helped to have Furiosa there to tell the story that Max's flashback's and opening monologue could not. He really doesn't have a reason to run his mouth the whole movie. He says the bare minimum to get the story moving and communicates his character more through his actions than traditional exposition and after seeing so many movies where two characters will meet and we'll get ten minutes of backstory through dialogue its kind of refreshing to have character communicated through action and reaction.

Unlike the last film where the tribe of children tell us the story of when they met Max, their narration and their POV, this story is very much the reverse, Max's story of being captured by the citadel and how he met Furiosa. If this film was called Mad Furiosa instead of Mad Max the question would be why does the story end with Max leaving, why don't we stick around after to see what Furiosa does next. We leave because we're with Max, he's our eyes and its his story.

I had the same problem at my screening, it looked as if the frame rate couldn't keep up or something, thought it was just the way the film was supposed to look but I'm not sure.

That's how I felt. I get that he's supposed to be someone akin to The Man with No Name but with this being his first introduction to many audience members we needed more of him. Still great but it is flawed, despite what Rotten Tomatoes is claiming.

You weren't supposed to feel right. Miller is trying to make you feel uneasy, disoriented, and discombobulated like Max. Sounds like it worked!

I don't think we'd be have these discussions about Max being a secondary character in this film if they'd gone with Mel Gibson in the role again. Tom Hardy is a fine actor, but he doesn't exude much charisma, which Mel does in spades. I enjoyed the movie overall, and will be picking up the blu-ray, but walking out of the theater I couldn't help but feel I would have liked it more if Mel had been in it.

It certainly did feel disorienting could even go as far as to say they had "tru motion" active ,that's what it felt like lol

I've seen this sentiment scattered sparingly throughout this thread so please don't think that I am singling you out, but I couldn't disagree more. Now everyone has the right to their own opinion and I have no qualms with anyone preferring Gibson as an actor/screen presence over Hardy, yet saying he's not charismatic (again, others have said this as well, not just GPN) seems an overstatement to justify said preference. He is clearly a fine actor in his own right and has plenty of presence/charisma. I think any disappointment here comes from a love of Gibson's Max and not because of anything Hardy does (or doesn't do) on screen. To me, after such a long break since Thunderdome (a movie I don't love), Hardy's performance was raw, real, and spare just like this new world and new story. I enjoyed the different take even though Gibson is the OG.
