I'll take cliche good vs. evil over (in really badly acted Hayden voice and scowl) "But from my point of view the Jedi are EVIL!!!!" The only shades of ambiguity in the prequels are spurred on by completely stupid character motivations.

Personally I love all 6 films but the prequels hold a slight edge for me. Part of it is nostalgia because I grew up with the PT trilogy but also I like the story in the PT more.
I've said this before and I still believe it to be true. The prequels, particularly Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, have the worst dialogue and acting/per dollar spent of any movies ever made. The scenes between Padme and Anakin are SOOOOOO painful to sit through. They're two young people who are supposed to be dealing with all kinds of emotional confusion, and yet they're like two lawyers talking to each other! I have seriously never witnessed a series of movies where it's so painfully obvious that the couple that's supposed to be in love has zero on screen chemistry more than these. Hell this series makes the Twilight romance seem like Romeo and Juliette.

The "You're so beautiful" scene between Anakin and Padme in ROTS might very well be the worst dialogue exchange in the history of cinema.

I love Padme in that scene though, the way she playfully teases Anakin is a world away from how uptight she is in the previous two movies.

Wasn't that scene also some kind of reshoot? Is this the reason Portman's face looks strangely sunken in, almost skeletal as compared to the rest of the film (even the scene she appears in previous to this).

All the signs were there from their very first meeting...

Makes no f**king sense lol

... but since I sorta agree with the poster mentioning how this thread should not turn into another PT discussion, I'll let it rest there.

Good spot. When I first saw that scene I thought Portman looked a bit ill.

If I was a cruel man I'd say the affects of working on the prequel trilogy had made her very ill, but I'm not so I won't.

Yeah, I found her face jarring in that scene as well. Ironic that he so strongly proclaims her beauty in that scene. I love Natalie Portman, but something was going on there.

It was probably re-shot while she was preparing for Black Swan. She got really skinny for that role. Not that she ever wasn't skinny but ballet dancer's bodies are on a whole different waify level.

Anyway, speaking of the dialogue. Some of it just makes no logical sense....

"I've been dying a little each day since you came back into my life."

WTF?? Who would say that? That sounds like something you would say to someone if you were breaking up with them, not confessing your love to them! You can really tell ol' George had just been through a bitter divorce prior to these movies being made!

Here's another example...

"I'm haunted by the kiss that you should have never given me."

Um, Anakin, buddy, YOU kissed HER on the balcony! And hey, let me give you a little tip, if you want to get her to like you, you don't do it by trying to guilt her! God what a stupid scene this was!

Talk about terrible luck. At least compulsive cleaners get clean houses out of the deal. What do you get out of your compulsive behavior? Nothing but headaches.

There are plenty of flaws in Jedi. Many of Jedi's flaws are as boring and/or annoying as anything in the prequels. Well, almost anything.

Star Wars and Empire, on the other hand, are virtually flawless.

Why do you keep harping about cliché good vs evil storytelling? Some extremely good films have good guys in white hats and bad guys in black hats.

Shane, High Noon, The Wizard of Oz, The Seven Samurai, The Magnificent Seven (odd coincidence, there), All the President's Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Princess Bride and on and on.

The lighting doesn't help, there's not a great deal of fill on her so it makes her features look sunken and hollow.

They were both really good in that scene. That was the one and only time they ever seemed like a real couple who actually, you know, liked each other.

Yep. The dialogue may be tin-eared toss but they're both so at ease in each other's company. Like I keep saying, it's great to have them seem more like normal people than the stiff exposition-spouting automatons that they usually are.

Nope all 6 films in the Star Wars saga have there flaws but the OT is hold so sacred because there is a lot of blind nostalgia. I just watched the OT the other day and there is just as much bad dialogue and cringe inducing scenes just like there are in the prequels. Those flaws don't stop me from enjoying the films. Not to mention it's all subjective at the end of the day. I will always prefer the PT over the OT.

Also here is some great articles I found that perfectly defends the prequels from the ridiculous hate they get:

Everything about the prequels have been said, it has been 10 years. If there's something new to discuss, I'm all for it. But we're seeing the same points being repeated every time, what's worse this is not even the thread for it.
