Who wants to join me on this journey? I finally got fed up with having so many movies that I never watched because it always took too long to pick something to watch. I have been stuck just watching tv shows over and over because its quicker. When I finally do decide to watch a movie I usually just watch one from the same 10 or so over and over again.
This is also a way for me to finally see the movies I blind bought and never got around to watching. Here are the rules. You start with the numbers or letters your choice, I am starting with 127 Hours. You then watch the movies and post two scores on here next to the titles if you are participating. The first score will be on a scale of 1-10 on how good you thought the movie was. The second score on a scale of 1-10 is how much you enjoyed watching the movie. I find the need for these two scores is because there are many movies I love to watch but I know they are terrible and movies I know are technically fantastic but they usually bore me. You can also give a few lines review if you wish but that is optional. We can then have fun discussing the movies we are watching as we go. Optional addition: Say something incredibly nerdy about a particular scene or something in the film you really liked from how it is artsy or just reminds you of or references something else. REMEMBER TO USE SPOILER TAGS PLEASE If you run into a movie that has sequels or prequels in a different alphabetical order you can break the order to watch them in proper sequence. Finally, if you reallllly reallllllly want to skip a movie because you have seen it too many times or just plain don't like it then just do so. Nobody's gonna hate. 127 Hours:
Film Score 9/10 Enjoyment Score 8.5/10 Something Nerdy: [Show spoiler] 17 Again: Film Score 6.8/10 Enjoyment Score 8/10 Something I liked: [Show spoiler] 21: Film Score 7/10 Enjoyment Score 7.5/10 Something Nerdy: [Show spoiler] 21 Jump Street Film Score 8/10 Enjoyment Score 8/10 Something I liked: [Show spoiler] 22 Jump Street Film Score 9/10 Enjoyment Score 9.5/10 Something Nerdy: [Show spoiler] Something I liked: [Show spoiler] 42: Film Score: 8.5/10 Enjoyment Score: 8/10 Something Nerdy: [Show spoiler] 50 First Dates (skipped) I'm setting an example to show you don't have to strictly follow the rules on here. I love this movie and as a result I watch it multiple times throughout the year. As such, I didn't feel like watching it again because I had seen it so many times. I'm putting my two scores anyways because I know the movie very well. Film Score: 7/10 Enjoyment Score 9/10 Last edited by bevins2016; 06-02-2015 at 08:27 PM. |

I fear I will die somewhere in the R-T section if I were to try this.
A better choice would be set aside your unwatched discs and watch them in alphabetical order. Kinda what I do, except without the alphabetical part. Unwatched sit separate until viewed, then they can join the others on the shelves. |

Neat idea.
What I do is every year I make a list of Blu-ray movies I own and haven't watched in three years. All I have to do is to go to My Collection and Sort by recently watched in descending order. That way I get to rewatch Blu-rays that would otherwise just gather dust on my shelves. |

No. I've put off starting my Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman box set long enough already.

Well it's an idea that has potential to be fun and interesting, just like any other novelty viewing pattern, but your idea of assigning points then having to say something nerdy about the movie just seems too much like work. Can't you just say that you're watching all your movies in alphabetical, offer that up as an idea for someone else to do, check in on the forum every now and then and discuss where you're at, etc.?

I had the same problem as the OP, and I considered alphabetical. But instead, I labeled the rows and columns of my shelves and then asked people on Facebook to post random things and let that determine what I watched (and I posted the result for them to make it interactive).
For example, once I labeled the rows as A, B, C, etc. Columns the same. Then each column fits about 30 movies. So... "Comment with the name of your favorite celebrity". Take their initials to pick the row & column and their birthday to pick the film. If the initials or number exceed your row/column/movie count then wrap around til you get there. If you only want to watch unwatched, then skip the watched ones while counting. It actually yielded some pretty coincidental results, with movies that often had some relation to the celebrity they had typed. I've also coded up a random generator for this same purpose before. |

One of these days, when I'm an old man, and I'm retired from work without a care in the entire world, I'm going to watch my Blu-rays and DVDs in biographical order.
I'm dead serious. I'm going to start with the first movies that I remember seeing at an extremely young age. (Benji, Jaws, Star Wars, Goldfinger, etc.) I will then work my way up to the movies that I discovered later on during my childhood. (Planet of the Apes, The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Superman II, etc.) From there, I'll go through my teenage years, my college years, my early adult years, and so on. I'll begin by putting my Blu-rays in the order that I discovered each movie during my life. This is different from the production date, mind you, because there were a lot of movies that I discovered decades after the fact (Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, etc.), but I will be watching them in the order that I first discovered them during my lifetime, so that the viewings will be like going through a big memory reel of my own life. |

Lately I've just been solving the blind buy problem by only watching blind buys, weeding out the ones I don't want to keep. In a couple of months I want my collection to only contain films I've seen and have deemed to be "keepers". |

I've considered alphabetical order and chronological order before, but I'm young and still exploring and discovering cinema. I've seen a LOT of movies in my lifetime already, and there's still a ton more to devour. I'd like to continue that, but also get back to my favorites that I've neglected over the past year and a half (maybe more for some of them) while doing this. I may do one or both of these eventually when I feel like there's not much left on my so-called movie bucket list. That could be 10 years from now, lol.

I mainly want people to have fun and for those who decide to participate use this as a way of revisiting movies they haven't seen in a while or at all. Another thing is that for some people like me they might actually decide to get rid of a couple of movies that they decided they don't ever want to watch again after giving it another viewing. |
