Yes it can.

VHS was gone because it was less convenient than DVD, more costly to produce, and because DVD players were not backwards compatible.

DVD is still 68 percent of the disc market...and holding. It was 68 percent last year and it's 68 percent this year. At that rate, when do you think DVD will be gone?
