Yeah, I stay away from their new releases. I picked up The Babadook and wasn't a huge fan of it. Should of waited for it to hit Netflix.

I imagine these do somewhat decent sales numbers for Scream if they keep releasing them. It's weird though. If I recall correctly, Cliff said they wouldn't release something like Psycho IV because there were better movies they could be releasing. But then they release stuff like this. You'd think an often requested title like Psycho IV would be sell more than this.

(This was all awhile ago though. They may have changed their minds on Psycho IV)

It's available on Amazon Prime Instant if you guys have it. I haven't seen it but I think I'll probably check it out.

I enjoyed The Babadook. A couple of people at school were talking about it. I decided to buy it, and I thought it was really creepy and eerie. I recommend it. It was a lot better than those typical mainstream movies with the loud music and jump scares.

Re. The Babadook.

Can't say I see what all the fuss was about.
Just another no-one-believes-the-kid ghost story.
The brat was incredibly annoying.

I hope not, because I have zero interest in the IFC films.

I thought it was a total bore. If you need to see it, I would suggest a rental as opposed to a blind-buy.

God I got excited because I thought it was Frankenstein's Army, which was a very nice surprise and very entertaining film.

Then I saw the cover art and realised well not only is it different, it just looks absolutely shit

Agreed! I liked Frankenstien's Army, Army of Frankenstien's looks like a heaping pile of steaming alpaca dung.

Remember that *better* films is always subjective. Whatever he feels are better films is what he licensed. Based on the titles Cliff has licensed, he seems to likes apocalyptic films, Carpenter films, Craven films, and films with robots in them. (not including the popular upper tier stuff such as The Howling, the Fog,etc) Whether or not they have Psycho IV remains to be seen

I'd also add that the IFC deal is likely different than the Universal or MGM deal. Where as Scream Factory is paying to license a select number of MGM/Universal films at a given time, I wouldn't be surprised if the IFC deal was just a blanket "you get everything horror related" sent your way. That comment about Psycho IV likely was a result of the fact that Scream Factory could only release so many films per the agreement, and there were much better films that would likely sell better than a made for tv movie from what was left to choose from. If Scream Factory had free access to everything in the vaults and it cost them nothing or next to nothing then I'm sure it'd have been released with parts II and III, but as it is, I'm sure it's still a ways off.

I'm surprised at how divisive The Babadook has turned out to be. It had tons of great buzz and coverage from horror publications but many seem to think it's mediocre. I thought it was terrific and truly scary. I see the film as a thinly veiled metaphor for mental illness. Since I work in the mental health field, perhaps it is more interesting to me due to that.

p.s.- the kid is supposed to be annoying. The movie wouldn't make any sense if he were an angel.

You could be on to something. I found the film good, not great, but didn't hesitate to pick it up. I also work in the Mental Health field.

On an unrelated note, Ipicked up Scream Factory's release of The Phantom of the Opera Last night for $14 (new). It's been on my radar since release, but it was featured on the trailers section of Candyman Farewell to the Flesh which I watched this past weekend, and seeing the trailer finally pushed me over the edge and made me pick it up.

It's funny. I didn't like Phantom of the Opera enough to own it on DVD but when Scream Factory announced it, I decided to pick it up. I definitely give more leeway to films when Scream Factory announces them. I don't buy films that I think are pure crap but if they're decent and/or have a star or director I admire, then odds are I'll pick it up.

Many kept saying The Babadook is a typical ghost with the child that no one believes. It's more about the mother trying to accept and overcome the death of her husband. And to forget about the horrible, scaring incident. The child trying to act up and behave badly so that the mother could pay attention to him. This negativity leads to the creation of this monster. I recommend watching The Babadook. It's a new take in the horror genre, in my opinion

And would you put The Babadook in the same league as The Others, The Devil's Backbone and Hammer stuff?

Speaking of Hammer, i want SF to do Hammer Universal stuff.

I wonder if they've ever considered a Hammer set like the Vincent Price volumes 1 and 2?

For what it's worth, that quote was over 2 years and about 100 announcements ago. Most of the upper tier stuff has already been released or is otherwise out of reach. He had made similar comments about Howling II (1, 2 3), and now it's on their release schedule.

The Devil's Backbone and The Others are ghost stories. Hammer films have way too many movies. There is no league in movies. Is there?
If you're saying that The Babadook might be as good as those movies, I don't know what to say because everyone has different "tastes" in movies.
