I have a hard time seeing how anyone can not vote season 1. From top to bottom it was the only flawless season with no bad episodes. While there have been great moments throughout the show, season 1 had something happen basically every episode. The reason we love some of the characters we do is because of season 1.

I would say 1, 3/2 (basic tie for me, but I think I prefer season 3 for the Red Wedding and Jaime's story), 5, and then 4.

Season 4 just dragged on too long with made up storylines that went nowhere (everything at Craster's, Tyrion rotting in prison, Sansa on a boat, Arya and Hound wandering aimlessly, Podrick and Brienne wandering aimlessly). It's the only season I have a hard time going back and watching because the middle portion is just a chore.

Season 5 is probably my favorite, maybe that's mostly because it's the latest one so it's freshest in my memory but still.

The best episodes of seasons 2-4 are better than the best episodes of season 1 imo.

The stories get more expansive...the characters develop into more interesting versions of themselves.

Agree, but Season 2 and 4 have some annoying plot holes. Season 1 has the most consistent storytelling. (Season 3 comes close)
