...and I'm also noting that we need better tech specs on future release's artwork. Thanks for the heads up!

A long-term ongoing project we've been working on for about 2 years is a full restoration of all 400+ episodes of Death Valley Days. Every once in awhile a big star shows up. We've seen episodes with Leonard Nimoy, George Takei, Nick Nolte, Russell Johnson and others. But today's guest star is the biggest yet.

From 1956...a 26 year old Clint Eastwood. One of his very earliest roles and his first credited role in a Western.

note: This is a downrez from our original 2K scan. This is not a final restored image.

Will this be getting a Blu-ray release down the line? Would buy, more classic TV in HD please.

Unfortunately we're only handling the restoration on this project, so any distribution is completely out of our hands. I've heard they've already started airing our new restored episodes on some sort of STARZ Western channel? I'd like to see them in their completed form myself!

can't wait for Wasseypur. It's a must own IMO and was my best film release of the year 2 years running. I have several friends who have already pre-ordered it based on my recommendation.

Metalhead, while not something I would watch enough times to warrant owning, is yet another fantastic film that I surprisingly really enjoyed when I saw it at TIFF. There were people in my screening (last of the festival) who had enjoyed it so much (at the first screening) they immediately purchased tickets to each subsequent screening.

Fantastic slate of films that I can't wait to see how they turn out and what the future holds for Cinelicious Pics.

Thanks so much for the kind words! We're doing our best to put more eyeballs on amazing films that many folks may otherwise never see!

If you ever release "Liquid Sky" and/or "God Speed You! Black Emperor" on blu ray, I will be forever grateful! Two of the most unique films I've seen.

A couple of titles

1. The Salamander (1971). From director Alain Tanner with Bulle Ogier. Major film, but it was never released on DVD in the U.S. There is a very nice master with Editions Montparnasse so you won't have to do too much work.
French release:
http://www.amazon.fr/Salamandre-Bull...rds=salamandre

2. Sandokan: The Tiger of Malaysia. Based on Emilio Salgari's famous novel. Massive cast. It was made for TV, but it was so big in Europe that it was screened in cinemas. It was never released in the U.S.
You will make a big splash if you bring it here. Shot in English. Recently released in Germany:

Sandokan Returns to Mompracem

German Trailer

3. As Far As My Feet Will Carry Me -- The true story of a Nazi soldier who walked from the death camps/GULAGs in Siberia to Iran -- more than 14,000 kilometers. The U.S. and HK DVDs are not in the proper ratio and I am fairly certain the rights are now available.

4. The Color of Pomegranates

No need to restore, it has been done right already. Just bring it to Blu-ray

5. Umberto Lenzi's So Sweet, So Perverse.... With beautiful Carroll Baker and Jean-Louis Trintignant. This one needs to be restored. Out now in Italy:

http://www.amazon.it/Cosi-Dolce-Perv...is+Trintignant

5. The Golden Claws of the Cat Girl, with beautiful Danièle Gaubert. No legal U.S. DVD releases. Needs to be restored.

6. The Sweet Body of Deborah. Needs to be restored, but a good element is out somewhere in Scandinavia. The DVD is not bad at all.

7. The Wayward Cloud. From Tsai Ming-liang. Love this film and it is incredibly beautiful. It will look stunning on Blu-ray

8. Je Taime Moi Non Plus/I Love You, I Don't. Chances of this film getting a Blu-ray release here are zero. Just license it from Canal. They have a good master as well, so you won't have to do too much work.

The legendary hit:

Trailer

9. Kontroll. Stunning Hungarian film. If you ask around in your neck of the woods, the director should be able to help with the rights -- or so I think This film will look stunning on Blu-ray. The U.S. DVD release was very poor.

10. Mortelle randonnée/Deadly Circuit. This is the original film with Isabelle Adjani and the late Michel Serrault. The rights should be available now. You need to restore here.

11. Dobermann. Bring this crazy film to the U.S. and you will make a very big splash. It would be nice if it is rescanned.

12. Kusturica's Time of the Gypsies and Black Cat, White Cat. No one is touching his films here. You go for them.

13.

There is a nice master in Italy for Violent Summer, but some restoration work will be needed. It is time to have some classic Zurlini on Blu-ray here.

14. The Last Days of Frankie the Fly. Top film with the late Dennis Hooper playing a loser with a dream. Let's have it on Blu-ray...

15. My Father's Wife. A long shot here, but if you can restore it and bring it to Blu-ray, you will have a friend for life

Pro-B

Just found this thread and this company!
Definitely interested in that animation film!
(although I really hope you don't degrain it as Disney does).

I haven't understood though what films can you aquire for Bluray distribution (meaning, from what studios).

On the top of my head are:

STORY OF A WOMAN (1970)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066410/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
One of the rarest films there is with a beautiful score by John Williams (Star Wars, E.T., Jurassic Park, Jaws etc.).
There is no VHS, DVD of it and it was only shown some times on TV in the 80s!
I had recently found one rare 35mm print from a collector that was sold.
A TV rip with very bad quality and red colors appeared on youtube briefly (with the first minutes cut) last year but taken down by Universal.
Oh, since it's a big studio that owns it, I guess this would be out of the question..

GANDAHAR (1988)
A Rene Laloux animation film.
Interested in the original French cut with the original French language and original score by Yared.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095525/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Eureka had released a DVD that now is OOP. Maybe they don't have the rights for a Bluray release? I am not sure.

CAVAFY (1996)
A very good Greek film about the life of Greek poet Cavafis with a score by Vangelis:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115849/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
I only know of a rare PAL DVD of it.

MAYERLING (1968)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064645/
i don't think any of the big studios would be interested in a bluray of this..

As for TV shows I would be interested in
Kraft Suspense Theatre (1963-1965)
Alcoa Premiere theater (1961-1963)

PS - if you have any idea how to get in touch with any of the rights holders of anything on your wish list, let me know!
Just a few suggestions:

O Drakos (Nikos Koundouros, 1956)

Voted the best Greek film of all time, Koundouros' little seen masterpiece was described by Guardian film critic Peter Bradshaw as "a dark, satirical noir masterpiece [...] like a French New Wave picture crossed with a British Ealing comedy, with something of Fellini in its zinging energy, and Carol Reed's Odd Man Out and The Third Man."

Rights holders Athanasopoulou VA have an English language website for the film, but as far as I know it has never had an English subtitled release.

Typhoon Club and Moving (Shinji Somai, 1985/1991)

The late Shinji Somai is still little known in the West, but was very popular in Japan. Moving has had quite a few screenings in the UK over the past few years - first as part of a Somai retrospective organised by Chris Fujiwara for the Edinburgh Film Festival (interviewed here) and then as part of a touring Cinema of Childhood series curated by Mark Cousins for his terrific essay film A Story of Children and Film.

Typhoon Club might be his most celebrated film - it focuses on a group of teens on the precipice of adulthood, but might just be one of the very best films made about that often examined theme.

Moving is like a live action Studio Ghibli film - a honest, heartrending, melancholic look at the impact on a young girl of her parents' divorce. Writing on it here

Rights Holders:

Typhoon Club - Toho
Moving - Yomiuri Telecasting Corp

The Spider's Stratagem (Bernardo Bertolucci, 1970)

Released in the same year as his recognised masterpiece The Conformist, Bernardo Bertolucci's The Spider's Stratagem is another remarkable but much lesser known film. Adapted from a story by Jorge Luis Borges and filmed by Vittorio Storaro, it's been unavailable on DVD.

Rights Holder: RAI

Days and Nights in the Forest and Distant Thunder (Satyajit Ray, 1970/1973)

Missing from the list of Satyajit Ray films that Criterion got the rights to a few years ago were Days and Nights in the Forest and Distant Thunder - two of Ray's best films and among my personal favourites. The BFI called the former one of Ray's five essential films. Time Out said it is "probably Ray's masterpiece."

Per the permissions of this Berkeley screening, the rights to Days and Nights in the Forest seem to be with Purnima Dutta. I'm not entirely sure who owns Distant Thunder.

The Voice of the Moon (Federico Fellini, 1990)

Admittedly, I haven't heard many good things about this film but I would love to see it. Any Fellini is usually worth seeing and given that this was his final film that gives it extra importance, though it has never had an English subtitled home video release at all.

Rights Holder: Mediaset

City of Pirates (Raul Ruiz, 1983)

An enigmatic film that the viewer can choose to read into or experience in all its phantasmagoric glory. In narrative structure, it is perhaps the closest I have seen a film replicate that of a nightmare - and it comes complete with some imagery to match, some of the most unforgettable ever committed to film.

Rights: Le Bureau

Hitler: A Film from Germany (Hans-Jurgen Syberberg, 1977)

A four part experimental film from Hans Jurgen Syberberg that drew the attention of Francis Ford Coppola and was hailed by Susan Sontag as the "most extraordinary film [she has] ever seen". Judging by the DVDs that I've seen it really needs to be restored.

Rights with the director Hans-Jurgen Syberberg, I think.

The Last Movie and Out of the Blue (Dennis Hopper, 1971/1980)

Dennis Hopper followed up Easy Rider with the now infamous The Last Movie, a film that is surely ready to be reassessed. It would take 9 years for him to direct another film - Out of the Blue, which gets better every time I see it.

Rights Holders:

The Last Movie - Hopper Art Trust
Out of the Blue - John Alan Simon

Also, pretty much any Frantisek Vlacil film you can get! The rights for Vlacil's films should be with the Czech National Film Archive and they should look stunning if given a proper restoration like Marketa Lazarova was recently (see the Criterion Blu-Ray). More about Vlacil here

Also any films you can get from Edward Yang or Hou Hsiao-Hsien - especially the former's Taipei Story. But rights for their films can be confusing.
