I don't know. Maybe the BBFC comes up with a scene none of us have thought of, or maybe they say the information on the site is incorrect, lots of ways for it to go belly up.

But the point is the director has denied there *were* any pre-cuts for the UK in an interview with Den of Geek (see earlier in this thread) so either the BBFC has got it wrong (or advised on pre-cuts but got given uncut version and it still got through as a 15) ot the director is wrong.

You were right to be cynical.

I just got this iffy response:

"The BBFC has a 20 year embargo on all files and documentation regarding the classification of films. Any information regarding the classification process of Kingsman: The Secret Service will not be available for some time."

Since when??

I've received cuts info from recent films before (i.e. Quantum of Solace).

Are the BBFC reaching back to the Ferman era?

Just look at Casino Royale's page:

Note: The following text may contain spoilers

[Show spoiler]This film was originally seen by the BBFC in an unfinished version for advice. The BBFC advised the company that the torture scene placed too much emphasis on both the infliction of pain and the sadism of the villain for the requested 12A category. When the completed version of the film was submitted for classification, reductions to the torture sequence had been made, including the removal of lingering shots of the rope, close shots of Bond's facial reaction and the substitution of a more distant shot of the beating. This re-edited version was acceptable at 12A, where the Guidelines permit violence provided there is no dwelling on detail or emphasis on injuries.
Where you getting details reports through emails?

That's more detailed than usual. Kingsman is much more vague about the nature of its cuts.

Yes, from the dudes in charge. Maybe the BBFC rep thought I wanted to see actual documents or something (although I was very clear about my interest)?

To be honest, pre-cuts don't bother me nearly as much as 'country-specific' censorship. The Kingsman that is out on Blu in the UK is the same as the version I watched and enjoyed at the cinema and that is good enough for me! I was aware about the apparent 'pre-cuts' - this is pretty standard practice now. If there are milliseconds missing here and there between the cinema/Blu versions I certainly didn't notice them!

Obviously if they 'find' a Directors Cut down the line, sign me up!

You'd think they'd be equally open regardless of the film. I know a lot of people use their reports to decide on whether or not to purchase a title or import a uncut release from elsewhere.

OK, the BBFC have clarified somewhat.

They DO give out cuts info on recent titles, but pre-cuts don't cut as cuts, ergo they're not an official part of the classification process.

Accordingly the BBFC don't give out what they see as private correspondence between themselves and the filmmakers... at least not for another 20 years.

I still don't understand how I managed to get the pre-cuts info for QOS? Maybe the guy in charge back then liked me...

Well to me if they ask the BBFC in the UK what pre-cuts they need for a 15 then make them just for the UK and don't ask for what pre-cuts they would need in Germany so release a different cut in the cinema and on DVD it is still country specific censorship IMO... just by the film-maker self-censoring for profit rather then the BBFC censoring for the moral high-ground.

To be a bit of a dick, Germany's FSK won't give out information on cuts required for each rating. Often companies will pre-censor way more than necessary in the hope of getting a certificate to save money on resubmission.

Good point though to be fair I just picked Germany as a 'non-UK country' and I'm sure it varies for each one, maybe depending on the cost of re-sbumitting for example too... still would love to find out if/when someone actually owns the UK BD and and another countriy's BD and can compare them side by side. Want the disc but am not going to buy until I'm sure!

Watched this last night. Quite fun, better than I expected. The other half wasn't looking forward to it, but really enjoyed it too.

Interesting that it manages to keep the humour balanced against the violence. Surprising amount of violence too, even considering it's comic book style.

The Princess gag was also interesting... a laugh out load moment that was almost comic relief to the violence/mayhem that had preceded (and was, inevitably, to follow) - a sort of pressure cooker release moment.

Overall, a movie that'll be getting a second watch. Some of the ropey CGI and cheesy London Cockney/Posh stuff just added to the overall fun.

Looking forward to seeing how they follow up (with a sequel).

I've now seen the edited version, and I have to say, it is some of the worst editing I have ever seen. The cuts (the major noticeable ones) come from the princess scene, and her line "If you save the world, we can do it in the @$$h0le" is completely removed, resulting in a terrible, jumpy cut between Eggsy saying "I've got to save the world" and "I'll be right back", cutting out possibly one of the best jokes. The other cut is actually just a zoom in; the shot of the princess' rear is still there, but it's zoomed in on the furry blanket (not a euphemism) she's lying on. It feels like they haven't considered what they're editing, and instead decided to just do the easiest thing.

Not too sure I'm afraid. It's just the version that my friend had downloaded on his computer.
