The Danish release also has the second disc

The Italian one is 2 discs too. DVD size box with a slim amaray case inside with the book - in English.

The Danish release

However it seems to be Out of Print now and the original release with the DD track seems to be back in print

Yes it's arrived, & it is the Danish two disc set, so many extras, & being s/hand, quite cheap

I've been to Gettysburg several times. Just an awesome town with super nice people and plenty of good history.

The last surviving member of the Casablanca cast has sadly passed away. Madeleine LeBeau was 92: link.

So... 75th Anniversary this year... surely WB have some kind of new release in the pipeline.

Perhaps a 4K release? Casablanca is still the benchmark for classic cinema on BD, I'd love to see how a 4K master looks.

We're still a release behind as it is, down in Australia. The current release on the shelves plays with words like "remastered" on the back of the slick, but it's just market-speak. It's still the same transfer as before the most recent restoration.

So it's the one with VC-1 encoding and lossy audio?

I was lucky to get the Italian release of the 4K remaster for something like 8 euros (for a 2BD + book set). It doesn't have the other swag of the US release but that just makes it more convenient and space-saving.

But very likely that Warner will put out UHD's of this and Wizard of Oz if they are at all doing catalog releases.

Yes, it is, mate. It got an official re-release -- I'm not sure why -- a couple of weeks after the 70th Anniversary version (the MPEG-4 AVC transfer with the black cover) was released in the US, with updated wording on the back, but it's still the same disc. I ended up buying the US version.

I picked up the Italian version for a few euros too, I could be wrong but I don't think we've had the remastered disc released in the UK yet either (or we hadn't at the time I bought the Italian one, anyway).

I think UK will finally get it this year, just like they got Citizen Kane from Warner last year for the first time for its 75th anniversary.

This is a pretty sad read...

The End of a Beautiful Friendship: Why America fell for Casablanca, and why the classic film is losing its hold on movie lovers. (Slate Magazine article)

I've always thought of this film as a timeless and wonderful story with an appeal that should span through the ages.

The article states that the shadow of World War II is fading, and that the movie's appeal is fading along with it. I guess that the silver lining behind the third world war that I suspect will happen in the not-too-distant future is that it will likely rekindle the ideal mode of thinking for this film.

Without getting too political, it just seems that similar world situations that led to total war a century ago are repeating themselves.
