Ninja Scroll - Re-Releasing May 19th!

Annoyed the original release didn't get the slip and this one does. Looks nice but I am not gonna re-buy for a slip.

SKU number.

If it is 8 digit it is usually online only.

7 digit and usually it'll be carried in store. For the most part the SKU method is pretty accurate. Again sometimes even a 7 digit SKU won't be in store. Also, if they have less then 3 copies in store sometimes those won't show up either for instore pickup.

I was at BB today and asked if they had any but nope. I guess I'll just order it at BB.com and hope that I get a good slip.

Seems like my scheming ways are being trumped. The slip cover has the upc printed on it while the actual bluray doesn't have it at all. I doubt I could keep the slip and return the unopened disc now =/

shockingly the original release of ninja scroll is still offering $15.97 to trade in on amazon. you can basically get the new version for free by trading in the old.

Has anyone reviewed the new release and noticed a difference between the two? Because this new releases packaging is stunningly better looking than the first, and I wouldn't mind the trade in (if the content is the same)

That slipcover looks terrific but I already have the Steelbook version (UK Blu-ray) and since they're identical then there's no point buying it.

Mine arrived today. There are some extremely minor differences.
I guess that you would call this a re-authoring. The menu background is the same as the older blu-ray but the ending theme song plays over the menu options instead of nothing at all. And, the "special features" button is replaced with the "also available on blu-ray from Sentai Filmworks" button. The bonus trailers are different than what was on the previous blu-ray.

One odd thing that I noticed was when I played the movie on my PS3, that for some reason, the English credits/subs would force play over 3 sections of the movie; with no way to turn them off. The older blu-ray did not do this. And, these subs are not burnt in cause when I played the movie on my computer, they did not appear. It could just be a setting on the PS3 or the way the disc was authored or the way the PS3 handles the way it was authored. But, I could see where it might upset some people.

The only other thing missing is that weird little add when you put on the old disc for the anime web site they have. When you insert the new disc, it just gets you right to the main menu.


Otherwise, everything else is about the same (or same).

Sentai doesn't put out their titles in physical Best Buy stores anymore. Wal-Mart, I could probably count on 1 hand on how many Sentai titles they sold in their stores. Their websites sell them though especially Best Buy's, but buying them in stores is impossible.

My copy of Ninja Scroll arrived today. I don't have Amazon Prime anymore, so I bought it from a 3rd party seller for $5.29. (used a $10 Gift Card) I had to pick up this movie after watching it for the first time on HULU last month.
