Here's a list of sites I've bookmarked over time of companies who deal in acoustic treatments. Some specialize in DIY, some are high-end, etc. etc. Almost certainly some have better products than others, so caveat emptor!

http://www.asc-hifi.com/
http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/studi...tic-treatment/
http://www.gikacoustics.com/index.html (popular with DIY-ers)

http://www.echobusters.com/

and, FWIW, a very quiet forum on acoustics: http://forum.studiotips.com/index.ph...9eb8a30d757375

quick question gentlemen, shall we keep it posted here? or shall we create a new thread regarding acoustic treatments?

sorry lads, i already made my compilation here

Rur, i hope you didnt mind i included your research material as well at the bottom portion (of course, referring you as the source.)

hopefully this can help out. although its not a DIY or a personal journal throughout the experience, it does help for those wanting to learn about it.

Research material, which i will forward to others in the future for reference.

Thank you guys for posting the links. I was going to start a thread about acoustics but looks like I have been beat to it. Maybe I will be allowed to add what I have been researching, after I put it together.

I just feel that we can offer the Blu-ray community some insight or direction. At least in attempt to give back by providing help rather than insults. We are always talking about our love for audio and taking it to the next level. I at times feel others may be intimidated to join in and ask questions about acoustics and high-end audio. I would like to keep the art alive by offering others correct and useful information. There is a lot of B.S. to sort through so I can see how it would overwhelm somebody that is interested but not sure where to begin.

Sure we all have to learn for ourselves but this isn't the Army either. Well even the Army teaches you so I don't know where I was going with that one. There is an old saying that I am going to butcher but bear with me. Give a man food and he can eat for a day but teach him to farm and he can eat for a lifetime. Fish/farm which ever terminology you prefer.

My whole reason for pushing for this kind of info is for all of us here at Blu-ray.com to have as reference. Other sites (I won't name names) are full of nothing but snide condescending people and comments. We have some great helpful and humble people here. We don't need another "mine is better than yours" site. Really all we are doing is passing on what was passed on to us by others. ( no this is not a script for another American Pie movie ) We are not acousticians but people who love our audio and enjoy it to the fullest and for all that it offers.

I would like to see Blu-ray stick around for a while and would like to also achieve the ultimate experience that Blu-ray technology can afford us at this moment in time. I would like to see others enjoy what we enjoy. It's not some well guarded secret or an "old boy's club" that is kept secretive. We need to attract others to the art of fine audio before it all but disappears.

I could go on and on but rather not and I'm sure others want me to stop too. So please let us stay humbled and fortunate for what we have. Let us share the wealth (knowledge).

I would also like to take the time to thank all who have helped me and others as well.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andrew

great post there mdabb,

as you mentioned, we can definitely try to inspire others out there to learn more about these formats, and even more about acoustic treatments. the problem lies in if they really wanted to, at least take a step or two to get there. referring to your previous quote, what if that man didnt even want to fish at the first place and yet still complains that he's hungry?

moving forward, i have gathered quite a number of reference material, and am more than pleased if we can definitely add more on to it.

im not quite certain as to how the blu-ray forum came to a beginning, but i do know that this isnt as advanced as other out there, nor focused towards home theater per se. other forums may be a bit snooty, others, well, unfortunately stick around due to other ideals.

lets just push on, and contribute towards what we can give.

Excellent!!!!! These guy's have hit all of the sites dealing with acoustic panels and such. Theres a wealth of infomation out there (even Audioadvisor is selling room treatments). If you tap into some of the pro audio websites - you can find books, and room treatments (they use them in studios ). Here's a decent site for measurement software http://www.etfacoustic.com/RPlusDSite/index.html

Whenever we have info, links, etc....... for consideration where would you like it presented??? I didn't want to clog up this thread or the one you have created. I have had some soundproofing & acoustical treatment material bookmarked for a while that may be of use. There are a few other things too but they are not ready for presentation.

mdabb,

i see that you've found the thread that i created a couple of days ago, but im not quite certain what you were trying to look into?

if you wanted diy projects or details to create acoustic panels, like i mentioned, and like the thread you posted earlier, that is a great place to get ideas from.

what i was trying to do was give people reference material to learn more about acoustics, and how the room affects the performance of your HT.

we cant build unless we understand the principles can we?

let me know about your additions to the other thread, and im more than willing to place it in there. again, this is a collective. not primarily mine per se, but a group effort of those who know a lot more about acoustic treatments.

sorry for the side track op...

back to our regular programming...

I haven't gone through the wealth of knowledge posted already. So I'll have to compare it to what I was thinking of contributing. No sense of being repetitive.

Well, I have been reading the book I picked up recently "Master Handbook Of Acoustics". There are some good DIY's, info and tech terms which I think can help people understand easier (maybe)......... Anyways I would like to help any way I can considering all the help everyone has afforded me.

Not sure if adding some phase cancellation articles would be appropriate for the "acoustics thread" but it does effect sound. I will make a list of things, articles, DIY articles, certain building materials that effect sound that may be of help. There is a great deal of info in that book.

So far the thread Jomari started is looking great and I hope others here at this site appreciate it as much as me. I think it will help people more than we think. I have seen other people here like "rogman" who have great equipment and a room and now they will be able to achieve even better sound with the help of this new thread.

Which reminds me............rogman, I appreciate the effort but do you see what we are trying to accomplish??? It's about getting the most out of our equipment and rooms for the love of quality audio. I didn't see any room treatments in your setup, have you ever considered what they can do for you??? You have a lot of potential going on there.

As well as others out there on this site. I have seen some people who have a lot of great things going for them. Who could easily benefit from room treatments and knowledge about room acoustics.
