Do me a favor and bring up internet explorer and type in "192.168.100.1" and let me know what your signal levels are. I'll help you out.

Part 1

1. Your "Power Level" is the most important thing in keeping your modem "locked". This number should be below 50, but only needs to be below 58 or so to work. The lower the better. This is commonly called the return signal.

2. Next check your "Received Signal Strength". This number should be between -10 and +10, with 0 being the best. (Same goes for your cable boxes and I can tell you how to check your signal there too!)

3. Now check your BER or Bit Error Rate. This shows your how much error is in your internet connection and can determine your speed. This should be at 0%.

_____________________

Part 2 (Windows)

1. Click "Start"

2. Click "Run" and type "cmd"(If you have Vista you'll have to click Accessories and then click command prompt.)

3. Now that the command prompt is up we'll check another VERY important part. Type "ping -t www.google.com" Your computer will now start to ping Google over and over until you hit "CONTROL + C" buttons at the same time. When pinging make sure to let it run for a couple minutes.

4. Now that you've done a ping test check to see how many packets were sent, and how many were received/lost. You need to have 0% packet loss. <---- If there are ANY packets lost, then there is your problem. This can be 1 of 2 things. Its either the modem itself which is common 90% of the time, OR then its losing packets straight from the tap and a line tech will have to come out because its usually a larger problem, could take days to fix.

5. If there is 0% packet loss then a line tech will have to come out and adjust your speed at the node, pretty easy.

Trust me....I Know what I'm talking about. ;-) Pic of the last speed test I did a couple months ago.

Cheers

-My power level was 57
-my received signal strength was -8
-the bit error rate wasn't listed on the page I was sent to, I'm using a surfboard modem if that helps.

I had 0 packet loss on the ping test.

Thanks for the help.

Alright, so I know now that you signal levels are pretty bad. One thing you want to make sure is that your cable line that the modem is connected to is "dedicated". Example: Meaning if you have 5 cable outlets in the house, you DO NOT use a 6 way splitter. Instead, you would use 2 way splitter going to a 4 way splitter. Same thing if you have only 4 outlets in the house you would use a 2 way splitter and also a 3 way splitter. On a 6 way splitter each output will lost 9dB. So, if you use a 2 way splitter you would take your main incoming signal directly into the 2 way; One output will go DIRECTLY to the modem making it "dedicated" and only losing 3.5dB instead of 9dB; Next you would use the 2nd output of that 2 way splitter to feed either an amplifier OR that 4 way splitter which will power your tv's. You NEVER want to use an amplifier to power your modem!!!

Check to see if your line is "dedicated". If not, then do it.

Yes! They provision the 16mbps service at 17600kbps down and 2200kbps up.

With PowerBoost, one can achieve ~22-35mbps for the first 45-50MB of a download the speed settles to ~17.3mbps - at least mine does.
Upload PowerBoost I get ~3.1mbps for the first 20-25MB then it settles to 2.2mbps.

Wired computer:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 22111 kbps (2763.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3079 kbps (384.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 24 ms

I like it!
It's the fastest internet I can get...

EDIT: Here, this is the speed I get when downloading a bunch of "Research Videos":

17.2mbps sustained...

My Comcast has sucked of late. Lots of lag & page loading issues, especially after I’ve checked my hotmail email. Even though my town is growing by leaps & bounds, I’m still too far out to get DSL.

DO NOT ever sell your soul and go with Hughes net. It's slow as crap (and I have their "fastest" package,) sometimes barely faster than dial up. Plus I have to do all my downloading of ps3 demos/updates between 3-6 am or I go over there fair access threshold (which is only 900mb) and I'm zapped for the next 24 hrs!!!!
THEY SUCK!!!!!
But it's the only thing I can get where I live. I WISH I could get comcast!!!!

When you get the highest that they offer they actually take the top off your modem and it'll hit as high as your area allows it. Also, (ready to be kneed in the crotch) I work for them so I've got my house hooked up ;-)
