Noticed something that might debunk the whole
[Show spoiler]"lightsaber floating in space
business. If you watch the behind the scenes ComicCon video and pay attention to the clapboards at the beginning...the shots of the First Order Stormtrooper are clearly marked as Scene 3. Obviously there is a difference between shots and scenes, but it's a good bet we're going straight to action. As in, boom, right from the outset,
[Show spoiler] we're getting the First Order Troopers. Opening crawl. Drop ship descending to the planet. Interior of Drop Ship.

That
[Show spoiler] floating lightsaber business
always sounded like a bunch of baloney.

Not sure if this was posted yet, but it's very informative and interesting. I really wish Brad Bird had agreed to direct this film.

Actually, I think the action scenes are his weakness. They're often just far too busy. The comparison to Fury Road is excellent. That's a film that's both chaotic and easy to understand, mostly because Miller spent time storyboarding and framing, whereas Abrams puts no preparation into his shots. Some directors can do that. Spielberg is notorious for letting the shots come to him when he walks on set and that's probably where Abrams got that technique from. The big difference though is that Abrams is definitely not Spielberg and he doesn't have the craft down a tenth as well as Spielberg does.

The shots on the deck of the Enterprise are great examples of how Abrams should shoot much of the film. The shots are patient and flowing and the blocking superb. If only he applied that same kind of thought to his action scenes...

See, this is why I'm skeptical about JJ Abrams directing this one. I'd rather have Brad Bird or Andrew Stanton take control of Episode VII instead.

then again would Brad Bird share the same love and respect for the source material? Maybe not.

Better yet, would Bird have been smart enough to toss the Lucas outline/Arndt script? Less Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewie AND a couple of 14-year-old lead characters? No thanks.

Lucas outline for the trilogy is still in play contrary to what you may have heard.

Lucas himself said they went in a different direction than his outline.

Bryan Young, who is close with Simon Kinberg, the producer of Rebels and one of the Anthology films, confirmed to him that Lucas outline is still in play.

Lucas said that because he thought it would be better for the film - to appeal to the minority of jaded cynics incapable of seeing the value in Lucas' Episodes 1-3.

As far as I understood it the only major change they made was giving the old gang bigger parts, but otherwise it still follows Lucas' outline.
