I wouldn't be surprised if we see a lot of films re-released on Blu as studios start to make new 4k masters. It will be their last 1080p money grab before putting those same masters onto the next format.

BBII was one of the films that Sony originally teased on BD when the format was new back around 2007 or so, and here we are in Q3 of 2015 and it still isn't released.

This. After all, we are talking about Sony here. Their sudden interest in blu ray catalog releases again is likely because they are working on 4k preparations. So it is rather convenient to release a blu ray from the 4k elements in hopes to get people to soon double dip on the new format release as they similarly tried to get people to do with Superbit dvds right before blu ray hit the market.

Must be because of Bad Boys 3?

To be honest I don't understand why some movies with one or a few sequels only get the first movie released onto Blu-ray and the sequels are nowhere to be seen for a long time. i.e. Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, The Pink Pather (Peter Sellers boxset was supposed to be happening but I guess MGM forgot about it?), They Call Me Mr. Tibbs and The Organization (These two have been released though.), JAWS 2-4 (I'd rather own 2 and maybe 3D), amongst others.
If I had my Blu-ray company I'd release movies with their sequels individually or a 2-Disc or whichever set.
