Because Webb did a by the numbers unmemorable rom-com that any first time director off the shelf from film school could have been given the opportunity and done as well (story itself and writing was good but not thanks to Webb). Trank actually made a unique first movie that showed some talent, love of superhero material, and some good ideas.

It's disheartening, although somewhat expected at this point.

I had given up hope of a decent adaptation of the source material a long time ago, but was still hoping for a decent/ good movie.

Looks like it won't even be that...

There's now the hope that Fox might let the rights reverse, or admit that a reasonable price ($250m-$500m) for the property to revert to Marvel is probably wise.

Its showin here today in my country. But damn... Im having doubts myself. Gf dont wanna go(we just watched MI last night), and Im having my doubts too. Two here and majority online says its not that good.

Maybe just use money for sushi. lol

The final test will be when the embargo is lifted and how the majority of reviews shape up.

No! What happened was, FOX broke the embargo!
They quoted a positive excerp(s) from one of the reviews and after that all bets were off.
"What's good for the goose is good for gander"

They even blew that. It seems there wasn't one mistake they didn't make in marketing.

To gain a couple of tepid positive reviews, they loosed a deluge of bad reviews.

I dunno. The Tourist wasn't particularly good (though it wasn't particularly bad either) and that hasn't tarnished my regard for either The Lives of Others or Henckel von Donnersmarck.

Chronicle isn't going to retroactively suck no matter how people feel about FF. It won't even retroactively suck if I dislike FF and I have quite a bit of sway with me.

Chronicle doesn't have to retroactively suck, Trank doesn't GET superheroes or why they do the things they do. Chronicle proved that and it looks like this film may as well. Still hoping it'll surprise me.

Chronicle was a very good superhero origin story. It put three believable teens in a fantastic situation and told a believable, interesting story about where they went next.

Obviously a little disappointed to see the critical battering this film has taken so far but over the years I'm so disconnected with critics at large, I'd probably still give this a chance. I'd rank Genisys as one of my favourite films of the year and that is currently one of the lowest scored movies active on Metacritic.
