I was one of those who didn't care if it was faithful to the comics or not, thought the first pieces of marketing looked decent enough, and got more and more worrisome the more I saw. All I really want from a film is that it is a good film, and this one doesn't seem like it.

With a film such as Jupiter Ascending, I at least thought it looked great despite being ravaged by critics, and it turned out to be one of my top ten this year so far, but this, it never looked like a "great" film, it never really did, and the critical mauling is the death sentence and the verdict that I feared it would end up with. I can't really for a second see how I'm going to enjoy this.

I'm sad to see this crash and burn because I wanted to be proven wrong, I don't want films to be bad, but here we are, evidently. I guess I'll give my thoughts on the film when I see it in a few months or so, and until then, I think I'll just stay away from this thread as I'm guessing it'll turn even more obnoxious than it already is.

I said all along this film would be rubbish. It seems I was right. You know a film is bad when its only good review says 'Well, it could have been worse'.

Jupiter Ascending was ****ing awesome! No shame in admitting that. THAT was good sc-fi, not this nonsense we have brewing under the FF label.

There is no way this movie is as bad as Catwoman, no way. I may go see it tomorrow to make up my own mind but i refuse to believe it's anywhere near as awful as that horrendous rubbish.

I may even be pleasantly surprised.

That's a weird way of thinking. I saw both of them in theatres and thought they suuuuuuuucked. Not sure if I wanna go for a threepeat with this new Fantastic Four but even if it's somehow worse than the previous two, that's not gonna make me like them better.

Other awesome comic book movies I've seen theatrically:

Batman & Robin
Catwoman (Worst Comic Book Movie Ever)
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

and so on.

Can they do that and have the Story Fantastic Four just kill the Trank FF please?

I'm glad this be horrible. Could help speed up the inevitable superhero fatigue and lead to less superhero films.

Hopefully the latter with Chris Evans returning as Johnny Storm (he was perfect for the role) and therefore having a dual role in the MCU.

At this point I can't imagine superhero fatigue settling in and Disney/Marvel or any other studio slowing down their output. Comic book movies are only becoming more ubiquitous as the years roll by.

I can. It will only take a few massive busts to make a nice dent. Like a studio losing a few hundred million. It's probably just all wishful thinking on my part because these movies are garbage and I can't wait for them to end. I'm even willing to give up xmen for the greater good.

Really liked this movie. Will have to see it once more before I can place it amongst the other marvel films. Left the theater feeling very entertained. I was worried it was going to be too dark, but it was actually quite fun. Held quite true to the source material. Didn't rely on humor to keep it entertaining. This made me completely forget about the other two. Can't wait to see the fantastic four 2.

Disney lost hundreds of millions of dollars with John Carter, Lone Ranger, and Tomorrow land. They wrote all three off and none of them made so much as a dent in Disney's profits so I doubt a dud is going to slow them down and they own Marvel studios. Marvel Studios sole purpose is superhero films and they are backed by one of the most profitable largest companies in the world. The only thing that could stop them is bankruptcy and that's not likely.

Like it or not superhero movies are here to stay for the foreseeable future.

Looking at what's due between now and 2020, there's about 4-5 superhero movies a year, mostly split between Marvel / DC ( I'm not sure what Fox's plans are after the X-Men trilogy finishes next year and Deadpool ), a small percentage of releases per year. I think it's a fairly safe bet to say the next CA / Avengers movies will do OK, as will BvS, and more than likely Suicide Squad. The lesser known properties are more of a risk, but I'd probably bet that the studios are taking that into account.

What will be interesting to see, is what happens when the current contracts run out, and new people are cast. I could see the output slowing then, as audiences might not take to the new cast, but I think they're here to stay....

I have to agree with worm. Catwoman is more likely to get a sequel than this.
