Default Panasonic Plasma 85u Or 800u

They Are Both 50" The Only Difference Is One Is Thx Cert. The 800u And The 85u Isn't. When Properly Calibrated What Does It Matter If It's Thx Cert. Or Not The Only Other Difference Would Be The Whole Cinema Reality Thing @ 24p Without 2/3 Pulldown Is That Worth It Or Do Most People Turn That Off And Run @ 60hz Anyway. Please Help That Whole True 24p Is Confusing I Just Want The Best Playback For My Blu-ray's I Though Just Being 1080p And A Panasonic Plasma With A Bd-30 Would Be Enough To Wow Me. I Don't Want Tobe Happy I Want To Be Blown Away.

I have the 85U and its pretty sweet. got it for $1969.99 so I figured that was a pretty good deal. They both rock though. It all comes down to your $ and preference. CNET does rate the 800U as their best tv

Main things you gain on the 800 (that will make a difference even when calibrated)

-More levels of grey (smoother gradation)
-Sweet design (the non-recessed screen looks amazing)
-Better scaler for SD (or lower than 1080P) content
-Bragging rights that you own a panasonic that beat/matched the kuros that are twice its price

Whats the price difference? If the price is close go for the 800, if not go 85. If the 800 didn't have flicker when playing BD's @24fps, I would pay the extra for it. Since it has the flicker, I don't think the rest of its features are going to be noticably better than the 85 to your eye.

I haven't seen it on the Pannys, but I have seen it on other sets and for me it is completely unwatchable.

While I have the exact answer to your dilema, I refuse to help you until you fix your post. Capitalizing the first letter of every word is one of the most annoying things that tweens and teenie boppers do online.

Welcome to the adult world. Mommy can't save you here.

All I was saying is that I have seen flicker before and it is horrible. I haven't seen the set personally, just read numerous review on the subject, including HDTV1080P's thread about 1080p TV's that supports 24fps

To arush5268d thank you very much for no advise at all. Don't get so caught up on silly things like caps and help out with the real cause or just don't post at all. I believe your response was more imature and I don't intend to post back and forth arguing. If you need to know my password is all caps and I just forgot to switch it the text was already typed and too much to redo for your sake. THANKS to everyone else though. I guess the only real issue is how bad is the flicker.

Actually it's the forum software that does that when an entire post is typed in capitals.

I have an 800u and the flicker dose not ruin anything, my vision is 20/20 so I'm not missing anything. It's hardly noticeable and even when you do notice it, (example: the climax showdown in Live Free or Die Hard) it looks natural and gives the movie a film-like feel. I love the 24p/48hz and I refuse turning it off. The only thing that flickers is REALLY bright light, and it flickers so damn fast you can barely notice it.

I'm not justifying my purchase, I want the best, money isn't an option. I could buy a Kuro set right now and return this, but trust me, the 800u is sexy. Good luck with your purchase, 800u is worth it for the THX mode alone. This is all imo, sorry if I come off sounding like a Panny fanboy, Its the only equipment from them I own.

That's the cinematic experience.
