McDonalds and Kenner were the biggest factors in the change from overly dark and gothic to fun and fancy. McDonalds had to pull their Returns campaign because of parents groups and that in turn was what killed the toys sales for Kenner because of the bad publicity generated from those protests. They wanted Warner Bros. to give them a more kid friendly product. It worked because the sales generated from Forever was massive, prompting the toy company to have even MORE control over production of the sequel. McDonalds had those glass mugs that sold out instantly. I remember going to a restaurant with my mother to get a glass and it was 12 in the afternoon the first day of the sale and they only had one Batman left. ONE.

What's funny is that when I was a kid and they had all of these crazy and colorful Batman figures and I only wanted the traditional looking Batman figures. I hated those figures because they weren't in the movies and looked stupid.

Dear, god, "Forever" more balanced?
Really, what are my eyes reading!?

And regarding the fidelity to the comics of the Nolan trilogy: it's very relative, many would point out a few big derailments in Batman's characterization in the second and third movie, derailments you don't see in the first two Burton movies.

I was contemplating giving it a 2 instead of a 1 but the technical aspects allowed for score of a 1. The CGI was poor, the editing was poor, the color palett was ugly, and Mara's wig...enough said.

I remember those, everybody was going crazy for the mugs! All my friends were out to collect them too, it was insane! I wasn't interested in them at all, but helped my friends collect them, I wonder if they're worth anything today... maybe I should ask them for a cut if they still have them lol

I'm still on the fence about seeing this in theaters, I really want to see for myself if it's really as bad as I've read but should I wait for blu-ray...

First comic book movie I haven't seen in theaters besides Punisher War Zone but it may be time to take a stand and not blindly see every film based on a graphic novel.

I want to know how they keep screwing up Doctor Doom in these movies. Honestly.

Dr Doom is a brilliant character. He has a great look, great costume, and great backstory. He was Darth Vader before there was Star Wars.

How big of an ego do these writers and directors have to keep trying to reinvent the wheel?

All that you say is true and why 1) Burton wasn't invited back 2) Batman Forever turned out the way it did 3) Batman & Robin turned out the way it did.

And I still have those four Batman Forever glass mugs!

They are going to keep saying this until the Blu Ray hits the shelves. Then they'll just hope that everyone forgets about it.

Sorry if this has been covered, but apparently a lot of key scenes from the trailers didn't make final cut.. http://collider.com/fantastic-four-d...from-trailers/

Honestly I would just skip it and wait till you can get the movie for around $5 or less.

I will never understand why the feel the need to keep messing with Doctor Doom. But the problem lies in the fact we haven't really had someone who loves the franchise in charge and til we do, we will keep getting horrid movies.

I feel this entire movie should be a deleted scene.

The problem is that putting a flashback in a movie is usually avoided and as Doom was disfigured in an experiment with Richards anyway they always conflate the two stories, they did it with the Ultimate version of the comics too and quite well, I must say.

Regarding the character himself, well, Doom once you strip him down to basics is just an entitled childish pompous ******* who also happens to be a genius and a warlock and mostly the focus of the movie is on the protagonists, and when a character like that doesn't have the time to do "awesome stuff" people will always tend to give more weight to the "entitled childish pompous *******" part.

I think they should have done a third, better scripted and more ambitious movie with the Jessica Alba team.
