It's not a perfect analogy, but I think it gets my basic point across.

It all seems like it boils down to entitlement and jealousy, yes? Because you enjoy films and would gladly watch the 15,000 movies in his collection vs him collecting disc art (LaserDiscs) and having a broad range of pictures at his disposable for his job he's obnoxious because he has the ability to afford them?

I was taught a long time ago not to covet what others had and enjoy what I can afford and have. He has an amazing collection and it doesn't bother me in the slightest he doesn't sit around watching them all. Forbes simply showcased his theaters and his film collection that him (and his family) have access to.

You can call it jealousy if you want...that's okay with me.

I don't see it that way, but I can understand how others would.

But I'm happy to respond to your post, because you're the only one who's even attempting to make an intelligent, respectful response to my position.

...I respect that.

That is a very nice collection. Thanks for posting the video.

I love looking at what people collect.

I have a pretty big music collection and not a bad size movie collection.

I still have my VHS tapes that I taped from TV. I remember how excited I was to tape "I Want To Hold You Hand." I knew for a while there were legal problems putting it out in any format except for broadcast. I've never been able to find "Gigot" with Jackie Gleason. I'd love to have that one.

About 30 years ago I walked into a house of a guy that had the largest Elton John collection I've ever seen. I'm not even a huge fan of the guy but I loved looking at his collection and listening to him talk about the items.

I just loved watching that guy talk about his collection and pulling out some of his items. I actually wish it was longer.

There was a documentary I once saw of a guy with the biggest 78rpm collection in the world. He knew about every record too.

Ever seen Ghost World? That nails the whole collecting mentality perfectly.

I'm really into getting Bluray special editions now. If Target has a bonus disc and Best Buy has a steelbook, I'll buy both. Yup insane but a lot of fun.

I also love the big bluray box sets but only a price below $25 and then I jump on them. Hopefully Nutty Professor and Gone With The Wind sink below $25. They recently came down in price but not below 25.

I also have fun looking for $5 blurays, especially a film I love that I only own the DVD.

That was pretty cool, I would love to be able to the resources to have both the space and collection he has.

It would be fun to peruse his collection and talk movies with him.

Thanks. I always appreciate when a debate is civil.

I'm not trying to attack your position, I do legitimately want to to understand it. It seems unfathomable to me how the man came off as braggadocios given what he does for a living. I may have taken the comments a little to heart myself given I collect a lot of different things but I'm not overly passionate about any of them so I'd hate to be looked down upon for my own general way of being. I buy vinyl records monthly but I rarely listen to them but I collect them for their art and vintage-ness. It usually doesn't bother me what people think, but I wouldn't want to be lumped in the obnoxious/show off category when that's far from my intent. It's just something I like doing. It may be the same for him. That's all I'm trying to get across. Collecting is an odd thing given there's a vast amount of ways to do the same thing.

I hope that made sense.

Maybe it's all about the joy of collecting and not the quality of the movie.

I know that some of my favorite movies could never be mistaken for a good movie, but, darn it, I like them.

Yeah, probably. The world is a big place and people have making movies for about a hundred years.

That's not to say this guy's collection consists of primarily good movies. He says himself that he has stuff on older formats that he didn't bother upgrading to DVD or BD.

One of the things that really delights me about this place is the absolutely certainty that any announcement is guaranteed to be met by people who can't wait to buy that particular title.

My mom forced me to watch Dutch a couple years ago. I love Ed O'Neill but those were seven of the most excruciating hours of my life. But as soon as it was announced one 'Day One' post after another popped up.

Go figure

People criticize this guy, then other people criticize those people's criticisms. Then the people who are criticizing criticisms are being criticized and so on and so forth.

Troll thread.

No, but I do!

And don't you dare criticize my collection or three years old Syrian babies with 30,000 pair of shoes will get donated to charity or something! That's what this thread is about right?

I am not going to criticize that collection as that's a classy collection, but even you have to admit your napkins with foodstains that look like religious/celebrity icons collection is a little too much

Wow he has more movies than a library or rental store.
He might be up there with Netflix and Amazon Prime disc rentals lol..

How does he go about choosing a movie to watch from that collection?

I think perhaps he should get rid of the DVDs or enclose them in the BD cases when he upgrades to utilise the space. The ones he's never going to watch unless it's for the artwork there's just no point.

Love his home theatre set up.

He'll have plenty of time to try and watch the movies he hasn't yet seen when he's retired.
