Sony Pictures The Walk 3D Blu-ray (2015) [Region Free]

thewalk3D.jpg

The new "The Walk" trailer 2, has a text insert between the different shots, that says something like "A 3D experience unlike anything you've seen before". Nice to see them put a big stress on the 3D.

Zemeckis (the director) is a fan of 3D and based on his past 3D efforts (Beowulf 3D), I'll see this for that reason, and for the amazing height in 3D. The movie about a guy planning to walk across two buildings might have not interested me otherwise unless it was on TV.

The IMAX trailer before Jurassic World is very effective...you feel the height of the buildings.

Saw the newest trailer in IMAX yesterday and the 3D was absolutely jaw-dropping. Can't remember the last time I said that about a 3D conversion in a while.

Based on the true story of French high-wire artist Philippe Petit's attempt to cross the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in 1974. I will also see this even though I am scared to death of heights. EEK!

Robert should have taken Spielberg's idea to heart and not shot this in scope but flat, speciality screens and IMAX screens would ideally look better with more image 'vertically', not less when it's letterboxed to frame the 2.35 framing. This is one movie I'll be checking out at the Uptown theater where the constant height screen will roll out horizontally to display more image, not less.

I'm hoping even the dialog shots are just as strong in 3D as the high wire 3D, and they're not saving the best 3D just for the exciting scenes.

Still unsure if it's filmed or converted, but these days, it doesn't matter as much knowing how strong the 3D conversions can be.

It's a conversion by Legend 3D. It looks cool tho.
I'm going to check this out in IMAX! I like how they're pushing the 3D experience on this and Everest. 👍

most of the film is shot in native 3D, some scenes were later converted to 3D in post production.

So which is it, converted or mainly native? The above two posts offer differing information.

This looks really good and Zemeckis knows how to do 3D well.

There's no mention of The Walk on 3ality's website.

Also, this blog claims that they contacted 3ality directly and they told him that they weren't consulted for any work on The Walk.

For these types of shots, I wonder if a 3D rig would be possible? Knowing they weren't really that high up and considering the fate of the location, they would be able to film this in 3D on a closed set with green screen, which Zemeckis has worked with a lot before with his actors.

Even if it's all converted, they did a great job with the 3D trailers so far.

They did shoot the film in Deep Vision 3D ,only minor 3D conversion work was done by Legend3D. This is still a film that was shot in native 3d.

If anybody can name a legitimate source for The Walk being shot natively, I'd appreciate it.

Deep Vision?! So this will be in anaglyph as well as IMAX and Real D 3D? Lol!
Seriously, I think everyone believes it's native because of Zemeckis. He's a big time director with the pull to shoot it in 3D but he's no stranger to technology.
Legend has done some excellent work. At least it's not another crappy conversion by Stereo D. Their work has been getting sloppy lately. I wasn't impressed with the 3D in Ant-Man or San Andreas.

No big deal if it's converted or filmed 3D for me anyway, as long as the 3D is strong, that's what matters most IMO.

Stereo D's track record is generally very good, with medium to strong 3D layering, which I see they achieved in Ant Man and San Andreas. I wasn't disappointed anyway, but every theater is different (some smaller theaters don't always calibrate the 3D projection correctly for the optimal 3D, and could end up with lots of ghosting for example, as I saw happen before), as well as the standards of each viewer of the 3D.

it's not just Stereo D that did the conversion for Ant-Man, Prime Focus World and Legend3D also did the 3d conversion work as well.

It's not uncommon to spread the work-load for competitive motivation, superior team-focus and access to various graphic processing capabilities.

Possibly a hybrid native-3D production. We'll know for sure from the end-film credits.
