I should have noticed that as I have the DE disc. It definitely looks better than the Criterion disc.

Thanks guys! The U.S. disc is pretty expensive, maybe I'll scour ebay for the german one. I've never seen the movie, so blind buying the U.S. one at $50 is a little too high for me.

THE BEGUILED now has a US release, so can be compared.

CIRCUS WORLD UK has 5.1 audio, the DE only 2.0.

The Beguiled U.S. disc should be identical to the European disc as this one is Universal worldwide.

It has better art work then the others in Europe. The most irritating thing about this and the European release is that the number of men on the cover does not amount to 12. There is only 9 characters on the MGM release and 11 on this, missing the most key character I think from the film.

I may have to fork out on the Criterion once it drops price. At least all 12 men are on the cover. The compression issues may not be noticeable once in motion.

You should be able to get the newer UK disc (has extras not barebones) pretty cheap - it did have a fault with early pressings but as long as you buy new from say Amazon you wont have that problem.
