Those EoE shots look amazing. I'm extremely delighted to upgrade from Manga Ent.'s absolutely shit-tier DVD, even though I'm going to have a tough time watching without subs.

Nope, that's just how the menus are. Some buttons are in English (presumably for stylistic reasons), some in Japanese.

MakeMKV + MKVMerge are your friends

Either rip the sub tracks from the DVDs or get them online, and then mux them in yourself :thumbsup

Don't bother trying to directly mux in the subs from the Manga DVD, as the scene-timing between that release (which was originally based off of the 1st Japanese DVD version from 1999) and all further Japanese video releases was changed by up to several frames per cut in either direction.

If this gets localized, I wonder if they'll keep the series and EoE as a boxset or sell them separately. I think I'd be tempted to just get EoE alone.

For those worried about how Episode 16 would turn out considering that they had to do an SD upscale due to the original film being lost, below is a comparison I cooked up. For reference, my workflow for the DVD screenshots were:

DVD -> MPC-HC screenshot (.png) -> Paint.net resize using "best quality" setting from 720x480 to 1440x1080 and add black borders to sides -> JPG output.
