Default Samsung BD-P1400 question to owners

Hi all

first time poster, long time reader

I am thinking of buying the Samsung BD-P1400 today (on sale in canada for $199.99) but i am wondering if it still has the incombatible disc issue.. I read somoewhere that it cant play some newer blurays? is that fixed? or still oon going? I know the player is profile 1 or 1.1 , either way i dont like pip commentary or extras just the movie

thanks

ian

I have had my 1400 since November and have not had one problem playing movies. It has been great. Make sure you keep the firmware updated...current version is 1.9.

btw, Welcome to the forum!

I have had my P1400 just one week short of a year as of today, and have never found a disk that would not play. Just keep the firmware current...

The only time mine rejected a disc it was a rental from blockbuster...I think it just rejected it on principal. If you keep the firmware up to date you should not have any issues in playing the movies. Some of the extras will be inaccesible because of the profile, but that is not a concern of mine.

great thanks guys, to all who responded.. I love samsung and i love my samsung tv

I just picked it up $199.99 is a steal,, I think i'll rent a few of the "problem discs" i read die hard 4 and potc3 have problems , i'll see if they work and if problems i will upgrade firmware

quick question can i upgrade my firmware to v9? or do i need to upgrade to 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and then 9?

You can go straight to 1.9. I've watched both those movies with no issues.

You only need to update to the most recent. The player should do that automatically if you do the update with a lan connection.

Word of advice: Do the update before you play any movies. I can almost assure you that newer movies will not play if you are using the very first firmware issued.

Updating with the ethernet connection it will only update one version at a time. You will need to keep updating until you get to the 080808 version(1.9). If you do it with a CD you can just jump to the latest version.

only had a problem w/1 movie, Batman Begins. after i updated it, worked fine.

i have had some curious issues of my own though. sometimes it won't open/close unless i have the dvd input up on the screen showing the Samsung logo. and it stops in the middle of a movie once in a while.

other than that, very happy, this is my 1st blu-ray player.
