"Tack went as far as to predict the demise of plasma technology in the mass market. He says that LED backlit LCD TVs and OLED TVs will prevail as the dominant technologies, with plasma only surviving in extremely large panel sizes. More on this soon."
i agree with that part of the article, IF the price is right! but i really cant see a lcd being better than a plasma for black levels, especially when it comes to the Kuro. |

Given that the good plasma's are cheaper from 42" to 65" than the LCD's, I don't think plasma is going anywhere.
IN fact, throughout Q2, plasma saw an increase in sales over the previous Q2 of 54% with a 28% increase in revenue = http://www.digitalhome.ca/content/view/2705/206/ I'd love to see Philips invite either Panasonic or Pioneer to set-up a Viera or KURO and allow independant testing and reviewing. I'd wager a 720p panel from Panasonic resolves more motion detail than a 1080p LCD from Philips. |

plasma and LCD have been battling it out forever. And you now what... who cares? The difference is that drastic enough to make such a fuss over.
I am waiting for the next generation of TV, be is OLED, or SED, Laser TV, or whatnot. These new technologies have potential to beat the existing tech once they are in mass market. Since I just got my TV, there is no way i am updating again any time soon, which is why the next generation of TV is what I am more concerned about. I am also looking forward to the new Autostereoscopic displays. |

You can't trust in brands anymore.
They use components from different sources according the current market (prices and availability). Even the exactly same model could have different source components. The only solution for you is see the product with your own eyes and decide. |

Without having seen the new Philips, it is not fair to just dismiss their claims outright, just because you don't like that brand; I'd bet that it really does have better motion detail. The facts are on their side, they've got the response time down to 2ms, that's better than Panasonic and Pioneer plasmas. Deep black levels are not the sole criterion for picture quality. I know that plasma guys have a tendency to pooh-pooh other TV's, but the inevitable fact is that someday, somebody is going to make a better TV than yours, and it might be today. |

The demise of plasma, what an idiot. I don't see what all the arguing over which is superior is about... why argue, when you can just have both?

This is completely stupid. LCD will inherently be inferior to plasma in terms of black levels because it is backlit. That's the simple truth, and it can't be disputed.
I've sat in on seminars and events like Digital Downtown a few months ago put on by CES and I had to hear the LG guys rave about their Scarlet LCD's that were going to "revolutionize" the industry and send Pioneer packing. ![]() |
