Universal Studios Everest 3D Blu-ray (2015) [Region Free]

Everest 3D Blu-ray

The first 3-D film to appear in theaters after a long August drought.

I was impressed with the 3-D trailer shown during IMAX screenings during the summer. The 3-D does a great job of showing off the size and scope of the mountainous terrain.

I'll definitely be checking it out.

I remember seeing the 90s Imax film Everest, and finding that a grueling experience (although well made). The whole mindset of subjecting yourself to a potentially suicidal ordeal like that just to prove something never made a whole lot of sense to me, but I suppose it's their choice.

So this was not exactly on my radar, but it seems to be getting very good press.

‘Everest’ Review: Big-Screen 3D Adventure Hits A New Peak

Quote:
This true story based on the ill-fated 1996 expeditions to the peak of the imposing Mount Everest has, as I say in my video review (click the link above), been brought to life with stunning clarity by director Baltasar Kormakur in a movie tailor-made for the big-screen glory of Imax and 3D. In fact, I don’t think I have ever seen a movie better suited for these formats. In other words folks, don’t watch this one on your keychain.
that's pretty much exactly what you'd hope for a film like this. If it gets more write-ups like this, I might check it out.

shooting it though in scope and not something can deliver or convey height- 1.85, 1.78 is something that a lot of director's don't understand - especially when it's shown on an IMAX screen.

I was interested in this until I found out it was a conversion. I feel like movies shouldn't be able to say "3D in the title like this if they're not actually shot in 3D.

Still, conversions have been proven they can be good if some effort is put into it, and if they're calling the movie "Everest 3D," I'd hope they put in some effort.

This popped up on our local (New Zealand) news-scene today...

Seems at least one movie reviewer was impressed giving Everest a 5-star rating and even better is the reviewed a 3D screening!

Read his (somewhat brief) review here: http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment...to-new-heights

That's a bit harsh Wootini! You've even acknowledged how good conversions can be. Honestly a great conversion can be better than a weak native shoot.

Got in invite to an IMAX 3D screening of this for Tuesday, so hopefully will be able to see it then (will go directly from work as soon as I can, but know they overbook these screenings even though I did the email confirmation). I saw the trailer in both IMAX 3D (with Pixels) and regular 3D (with Ant-Man), and thought it looked impressive so looking forward to it.

I'm not sure what I'm more excited about. Seeing this in 3D, or the end of people going "Oooh, Pierce Brosnan" during the trailers before every other film I've seen recently. It's Josh Brolin dammit.

Big difference between them IMO so I'm surprised some people thought it was 007 and not Brolin from MIB 3 as Agent K, Goonies or Gangster Squad.

So it's a pretty good movie. The set-up is fine, but nothing new or special and goes on perhaps a bit too long, but the last 45 minutes or so is really emotional (a bunch of people were crying at the screening) and intense.

Like Universal's Jurassic World this isn't a pop-out 3D film at all (maybe a couple snow flakes come before the window, but that's it), but unlike with JW, I don't think that kind of 3D would fit this film. Where the 3D really shines are some cliffhanger shots or the various cutaways showing off the scope of the mountain- the latter are so cool you want more of them even though the film shows them off several times (reminds me of some of the images from the old IMAX doc, one of the first I saw in that format, and I could totally have watched those shots without any story context and still been impressed).

Was looking forward to picking this up at best buy but they they hacked up the price on release date... Is this becoming a new trend? Also happened with Antman, so I have to pre-order a Damn movie now to get it for a decent price on release date? Guess I'll wait for it to go on sale again.

Looks like it's still $23 at Target so I'll either go there tomorrow or get it price matched somewhere.

I watched Everest 3D last night. The 3D was very immersive, and is as close as I'll ever get to climbing the mountain. It gave depth to the mountain and climbers. I didn't notice any forward pop-outs. I can't imagine watching Everest in 2D.

I own this title, but so far I only watched the bluray version for the Dolby Atmos surround effects. I will watch it in 3D this weekend....
In my experience, a good movie in bluray/Dolby Atmos beats a good movie in 3D/DTS-H Master

Um...okay. But the 3D version also has Atmos so not sure what advantage the 2D version has for you.

The 3D version comes in DTS-H Master. Only the Blu-ray version comes in Dolby Atmos audio

I meant to say that the non-3D bluray disc is in Dolby Atmos.

Same with Gravity...Either you pick the 3D version (in DTS-H Master) or the bluray version in Dolby Atmos (and give up the 3D in that case)

Atmos 2D only beats 3D + master if you have Atmos audio
