Grabbed the 3D set from Best Buy yesterday. The lady said they sold out of the Steelbook within 20 mins of opening on Tuesday. (I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask). Watched it last night and enjoyed it just as much the 2nd time as the theater. It definitely has a fantastic audio track. Sub & transducers were going the entire time.

Digital copies is the format they have beeen waiting for so they can have more control over what is done with the film.
The irony is that it's not really making a difference with people getting it through other means. If anything, it's made available even earlier. Yet again, another business practice that seems to punish supporters of physical media and encourages piracy.

Seeing that car crash so fast was really off putting. It's like being a Star Wars fan, seeing the Millennium Falcon after years of waiting, only to have it crash in the first 30 seconds or so of the movie and then never see Han Solo pilot the ship again. Most of my issues, like I said, are with the cutting in the opening scene and Max's escape attempt. Some seem to really dig it and that's cool. But I didn't care for it. I did like the introduction to Immortan Joe and Imperator Furiosa, The scenes with the War Boys that take place in, I'm guessing, the bowels of Joe's Citadel are interesting and at the same time off putting. It introduces Nux (I've seen the film more than a few times and I had to look that name up!) so I understand it's inclusion but I started to get Thunderdome vibes from the sequence. But once they hit the road, it's pretty stellar. The first really great scene, in my humble opinion, is the fight between Max and Furiosa. It's a marvel of film editing. After that, I was completely on board for the rest of the movie. I do have a few issues with the Vuvalini. We don't spend enough time with those characters to really care about their fate at the films climax. I'm empathetic to their plight but have no emotional investment with them. But all in all, this is a really good movie. I don't think it's as great as the first two Mad Max films but it's so much better than Thunderdome. It's probably the best blockbuster film I saw this summer with Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation and surprisingly Ant-Man as runners up.
Thanks for going into more detail so i can better see where you're coming from. I personally would have loved more time spent at The Citadel early on, there's so much material there a whole movie could be built just around all that. I think just a few extra minutes or moments there to set things up would have been good, however i do love the movie the way it is.

I hear the complaint about the car a lot from Max fans so you're definitely not alone there. A lot of people seem to feel that when the car is brought back, souped up even more later in the film, that Max would end up behind the wheel again and that we'd get some great Max Interceptor action, of course that was not to be. As the car was destroyed in Mad Max 2 i never really got as attached to it as some. I'm a huge Thunderdome fan and the Interceptor is of course not in that movie at all and it doesn't bother me one bit. I thought the Fury Road opening was perfect, but yes perhaps we could have had an extra 30 seconds or a minute of chase before the crash.

Yes perhaps also The Vuvalini could have done with more development. Miller has edited this thing right down, I'd love to see a two and a half hour cut, not instead of the version we have, but as a side option for those who want a bit more detail.

Overall though Fury Road is my favourite movie of all time, i love the Mad Max trilogy dearly and i think Thunderdome, the much maligned installment is fantastic. You have made some good points and i certainly don't think any of your suggestions would have hurt the movie at all.

I would love a directors cut down the line and who knows it may even address some of your concerns about the start of the movie. Of cours whether or not we get one remains to be seen!

I don't think they are trying to punish anyone with early digital releases. The point is to secure pre-orders, much like the video game industry does. Early access to a digital copy is a great incentive to make that happen.

Pretty sure the director's cut is what we've got, minus maybe the B&W/Silent movie thing (which I don't think is a director's cut considering Miller has stated he likes the 3D). Any other version of this movie would be a curiosity at best, cash grab at worst.

Yeah you're right, i agree that the theatrical cut certainly seems to be the cut that Miller prefers/ is very pleased with.

As much as I love the interceptor I don't think it's ever had a chance to shine in any of the movies.
[Show spoiler] MM it's in there for like 10 minutes (not my favorite move in the series), Road Warrior it's in there for maybe one full action scene before getting wrecked, Thunderdome good movie but no interceptor.
It would almost be against tradition to have it survive a mad max movie. I hope it regenerates without explanation for the next one.

Are there Mad Max toys or collectables. Like, especially all those sick vehicle designs?

Could someone please tell me/us what the "Collectible Infographic" is?
It says details on reverse side of sticker, but I started to peel one back and saw only white!

Picked up the whole Mad Max Anthology today. I've never seen any of the Mad Max movies (I know) so I decided I would get all of them. Can't wait to marathon these movies!

Finally saw this for the first time last night.

It's a very good, adrenaline-fueled film, but to say it's anything other than a mindless action movie is ridiculous imo.

It's a very well made mindless action movie...but a mindless action movie nonetheless.

Dialogue-wise, it has none of the wit and substance of the original trilogy.

There's too much CGI for my taste.

Basically it's just a non-stop series of CGI-driven action scenes.

There's very little to chew on thematically.

Fun movie to watch for sure, as long as you're not looking for anything more than shallow, surface-level fun.

...at least that's my opinion.

it's an action movie at the top of the class, especially the last bunch of years. There's not much dialogue, but it gets things across like character development and world building without it really. CGI is inevitable, but they made great effort for the amount of practical effects that is most of the film.

it's a fun movie for the eyes. Everything blows up real nice.

Agree with you, except for the notion that there's any substantive character development, which imo there is not.

The essence of the film is this:

...get from point A to point Z and back to point A again.

...with a series of chases and explosions in between that become redundant and repetitive after a while.

That's it--that's all there is.

Fury Road is a ballad. We don't need to listen to characters sit and explain things through exposition. There is some there, and everything we need to know is expressed, but much of it is done visually.

What would you have done differently Ray to improve the movie in your eyes? Were there some sections or parts that didn't work at all for you? What would your approach have been?

There were some great conversational moments in The Road Warrior and Thunderdome where characters actually took some time to delve into the philosophical and moral ramifications of the post-apocalyptic world.

And there were some funny, quirky moments involving the characters that do not exist in Fury Road.

...I miss Bruce Spence.

I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the movie.

But it was missing a lot of the thematic substance of the original trilogy imo.

I think I know the kind of moments which you refer to and I also love them from the original trilogy. Bruce Spence having a role in this would have been absolutely wonderful, it's a shame George couldn't get him in there somewhere. Honestly IMO Fury Road is a movie that reveals more and more with each viewing. It has a wealth of detail and world building that is hard to ignore the more you watch it. I appreciate that very little is revealed via dialogue but through visuals and character it conveys so much IMO.

I hope when you return for a second time, or even more times after that, that the movie opens up more of the world for you and you feel more satisfied with what it has to offer.

This film had a lot more practical in camera effects than CGI so I can't fault this film much at all in that regard. I don't care for CGI films myself which was the main reason the Star Wars prequels will always boring junk.

Mad Max is a very well made film. still Shocked it was George Miller behind it.
