CR is my favorite Bond very but it doesnt excuse the fact some of the new Bond films are severely lacking in action.
The World is not enough for example has about 8 very good action set pieces

Ah fair enough. I thought Skyfall had the intro, the shadow fight in Shanghai, and the brief gunfight at Parliament. The rest in that movie were good but those were the highlights. Even in QoS I like the opening car chase, boat chase, and the brief fight in the hotel when Bond arrives in Haiti.

Thing is what have they spent that kind of money on? The CG in Bond movies these days is minimal (and when its there its not even that good) sure shooting abraod costs a lot but it's not like the Bond series is the only movie that goes to shoot abroad so it can't be just that. I imagine Craig and Mendes are paid far more than they're worth but seriously which black hole is the money going into? That is some insane spending and ridiculous for a movie with so little in terms of visual FX.

Unfortunately I think when Bond comes to Town, as they have a lot of locations, all the prices rise accordingly. They still get incentives to film in foreign countries, but it's a very expensive operation.

This is a common misconception. Skyfall has some of the most CGI of any Bond movie (about 1,300 shots), it was just better quality and more judiciously used. Googling around, it looks like Spectre's budget is due to the number of locations, the raises for both Craig and especially Mendes (he needed convincing to return), and the caliber of the cast/crew.

Yep, I've heard the above is a factor. Suddenly, rates skyrocket when filming for a Bond movie is underway. Reminds of that Simpsons episode where the mayor and chief of police of Springfield begin to create laws on the spot in order to fleece the Hollywood types behind the Radioactive Man movie.

And yet that movie is as dull as dishwater as far as I'm concerned. Action scenes are great when they compliment a great story, I'm far more interested in great plotting and the cool spy intrigues. Movies that are wall to wall action? Boooring.

Why do you GAF how much money some studio spends on a film, it's their money. As long as they make movies that don't suck I couldn't care less whether it costs five dollars or five billion.

The amount of money invested and what it makes decides how and if the franchise moves forward. Investment and result is what leads Hollywood, which makes it an interesting point to follow by viewers.

Scorpion Soldier sums it nicely, and far better than I could.

I'd never buy that without having seen the film first, but it's sort of a cool idea. I'd also feel ridiculous each and every time I showed that to the ticket attendant.

Regal is disgusting for charging $100 for that and they should be ashamed of themselves.

I actually am with Chris, in regards to having a list of stores I boycott anyway.

That card would have been awesome for AMC with Avengers. Make it happen with GOTG 2 AMC!

Who the heck would want to see a movie more than 3 times? That's only around $30 for three movie tickets and save the rest for concessions or something else in life. Then you'll have a stupid card collecting dust in the drawer.

Lots of people. I think the idea of using that card to get $100 worth of use out of it is secondary to it just being a pure collectors item/token of fandom.

At the expense of coherent plotting and character development because the director is spending all his time concentrating on the effects and CGI instead of everything else that would make for an interesting film. And usually when the effects are over-the-top, they don't represent what would happen in the real physical world and the whole thing is just silly.

Bond doesn't need extreme action. It needs a plot that contains a really interesting villain in which you can't figure out how it's going to be resolved and in which you truly believe that Bond is in extreme danger. It needs to surprise us, as any good film needs to do.

I recently saw MI-5 which had some great action sequences and I know the film got some positive reviews, but I was actually pretty bored the whole time. It takes more than cool action sequences to make a good film.

Having said that, I'm not putting down SPECTRE or predicting that it's going to be bad or flop, even though inflated budgets are usually a bad sign. I don't criticize films I haven't seen. Too many people on the web seem to make a sport of that and it's really hurting the film industry.
