Warner Bros In the Heart of the Sea (2015) Blu-ray 3D [Region Free]

In the Heart of the Sea 3D Blu-ray

was already excited for this before, but my hype just shot to the stratosphere with this trailer and the revelation it will be released in 3D!!!! I'm a little confused though if the tag at the end means that it's 2D only Imax and 3d only on regular screens. Even so, I'm super happy it's getting released in 3d and I'm sure it's going to look amazing!

IMAX website says it will be in 3D (has for a while now, how I first discovered it would be in 3D). The tag was a bit weird as well, I think either could be a new logo design, or could mean they will split IMAX showings between 2D and 3D like Man of Steel and The Hobbit (both WB releases as well) did.

Actually just looked at IMAX website and now it doesn't mention 3D (I had to have looked within a week or two before and its changed since then)- so yeah, maybe it will be 3D in regular screens and 2D in IMAX.

My best guess is cause the 3D release was added late (after it was delayed from March to December), but still kinda weird- I like 3D best theatrically when it's in IMAX. Hopefully it is a split between 2D and 3D IMAX showings, which I would not have a problem with.

Edit: Also this poster (dated today) mentions IMAX 3D, so certainly weird (for now, I'm going on a 2D and 3D IMAX split showings)

Thanks, I'm seeing enough that I feel confident there will be an IMAX 3D release (either wholly focused on that, or split between 2D and 3D). I'm guessing some of the marketing confusion comes from the fact that it was going to be just 2D and IMAX and release in March 2015, and 3D conversion plans were added sometime after the delay to December (I see the IMAX website still has the old March poster on it for instance).

So glad to see this is getting a 3-D release, after speculation that the plan had been abandoned like F4.

And it looks really good.

Great to get a 3-D film that seems to be a credible period piece amongst all the comic book movies and blockbuster franchise movies.

The only reservation I'd have is that the conversion work looks challenging. My worst memories of Clash of the Titans were the swaying of the rigging and the wrecking of the boat and the shoddy mess they made separating all the overlapping elements in converting those scenes. But I like to think those days are behind us.

The 3D in this is amazing. I really liked the story too. It's not a crazy fast paced story but it is a well told one. Not sure why so many negative reviews. Again, I am left deciding to keep it not. I am definitely leaning towards keep.

Tried to buy it at Target but the system said it can't be sold till the 15th. Going to have to go to Best Buy.

Same thing just happened to me at target for the 3-D version and a few people looked into it I let them know to set it was available on Amazon and Best Buy and the regular 2-D addition was available and was surprised that I'm probably the first person at this location purchasing a 3-D copy they let me buy it and just rang it up strangely so it would probably be hard for me to do a return

FYI, this is 1.78:1 for 2D & 3D. Oddly the Island montage is presented in 1.85:1. I haven't looked to see if the film is opened up or side cropped...

Still deciding to keep or sell, lol.

just watched and yeah 1:78 in 3d is always welcome. I thought the movie was great. Pacing was just right. The photography - phenominal. the 3d, I would say is really good. It was definitely all window. You know like the tv is the glass and you the viewer is just looking out or in...or whatever. It seemed like there was zero..0..pop out. There was a ton of well used fore ground object placement...i liked that it seemed thought out and planned. I would say that was the high light of the 3d. There was some great depth a few times when board or mast soared away into the back of the tv. again thought the movie was great and the 3d most definitely adds a bunch to my enjoyment of the movie.

Just pre-ordered the German 3D steelbook of this. Really enjoyed the movie but have only seen it in 2D so far.

3D gives it another dimension.

The movie wasn't what I thought it would be, it's so much more than a story about a whale. The cinematography was great, the pacing was pretty spot on for an ordeal that lasted as long as it did.

I do want to see this one but can't really justify $27.99 on a blind buy. Hoping for a sale at some point down the road.
