Kept putting off getting Argo Extended Edition for $14.49 because I couldn't find anything else to get to get free shipping, and when I finally decided to buy it today the price has gone back up. I should know by now not to wait when it comes to Amazon.

Amazon.ca currently has a buy 3 select Blu-rays for $27 promo (until Sept. 28).

Has anyone pre-ordered the Aladdin blu yet?
I had a pre-order for a version that just had English on the cover, and it was listed at 28.99. However, today I see in the BR.com deals a "french version" that lists French as the primary language and it's priced at 25.99. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Aladdin-Blu-ray/133241/ Could this possibly be an error and it's just bilingual and it's erroneously listing French as the primary language? I'm curious because it is slightly cheaper. Thanks! |

I always go for the english only covers, but go for it if you want to save a bit of cash and don't mind the french (this one doesn't look as bad since the title doesn't need a translation). |

@Animatic33
It looks like the english only cover of Aladdin also dropped in price. |

Ordered Watership Down. $40 down to $28. It's also $35 at HMV. Been wanting this one for a while! As you mentioned, quite a bit cheaper in the states and they definitely get better sales on these things, but with our dollar you get hammered right now. I used to take part in the Criterion 50% off sale. Even with exchange and duty (only got charged duty once I think?) it was still cheaper when our dollar was better.

OTOH, lots of "experts" say that we could get hammered on the prices of U.S. goods very soon. Even if our $ doesn't drop any further, which most expect it will. Retailers haven't been passing the whole exchange rate on to us so far (i.e. what I said about these Crits costing more a few years ago when our $ was at par or over). They also didn't pass the exchange rate on to us when our $ was strong...boohoo for them. If it's too expensive, we just won't buy it. Make a buck, or make nothing, their choice. It's not like in the DVD days when Criterion funded a lot of the scans. They're just about all licensed by them now, and are available elsewhere. There is a huge margin in their prices, B&N sure isn't losing anything on 50% sales. amazon.ca could sell them for a lot less, but then we all know about how "convenient" eOne is to deal with. And the proportion of the public who even want discs is shrinking rapidly. "We" are not in a weak position, stay strong. ![]() That said, I've been very pleased with all of the Crit BDs I've got. Far more so than with their DVDs in the DVD era (don't know about current ones, never play them when included). This is the benefit of not relying on just Criterion's sole-funding, it is a matter of access to better sources and more expensive scans where the expenses can be spread world-wide (HD-quality scans were available in the "DVD era", Criterion just didn't generally use them). |
