Hopefully someone can answer.... I have the Complete Anthology Blu set, as well as the prior digibook of the original The Exorcist.

Are any of the prior DVD's worth hanging on to; in other words, maybe the DVD has an extra not carried over, etc.?

I know the 1998 DVD of the original has the original Warner logo and no CGI, so I'll hold on to that one. But I also have the 25th Anniversary Special Edition DVD which I don't think is worth keeping for any reason. But then there's the DVD version of "The Version You've Never Seen" which I believe was modified for the Blu, right? Taking out some of the CGI demons on the walls. So that one may be worth keeping just to retain that version, as bad as it was. Plus the sequels: 2,3, and the two prequels - looks like the Blus carried over everything?

Someone on here a while back claimed that the actual original 1973 & '74 prints carried the same Warner logo that opens Exorcist II, and then for the '79 re-release, it was replaced with the more familiar Saul Bass motion logo that is on the '97 DVD. But I guess there's really no way to confirm that unless someone has access to an original print

Also, the '97 DVD contains a stereo track on the WS side, and a 5.1 track on the FS side, both of which appear to be derived from the 1979 stereo remix, while the later 5.1 on the 25th Anniversary DVD and the Blu-ray seem to be slightly expanded from the original mono.

Thanks for that. Ya, I'm still definitely going to keep the 1997 DVD for the alternate stuff, even if it's not 100% authentic. At least no CGI face-morph at the end if nothing else. I just can't figure out 100% if there's any reason to hold onto the 25th Anniversary DVD or the "Version That You've Never Seen" DVDs, though. Is the latter DVD the only way to get the intact theatrical of "TVTYNS" print with all those silly CGI demons? And the 25th Anniversary DVD is probably completely obsolete now if you have the Blu?

I've definitely checked and there's no reason to hold on to the DVD's of Exorcist 2 or 3. No extras missing.

However, the two prequels have some changes between the DVD and Blu. THE BEGINNING Blu-ray has a crazy trailer that uses a lot of footage from "Dominion" in it! It's a completely weird, alternate trailer than the one that was on the DVD, which was a full-length proper trailer for THE BEGINNING with no footage from Dominion. So that DVD would be worth holding on to if you're a completist.

I know the two prequels aren't loved (I sure don't love them, or even really like them), but there's also a difference between the DVD and Blu of DOMINION as well. The aspect ratio is wider on the DVD than the Blu (which is 1.78:1). Not that much wider and not quite scope, and the excellent review on this site explains why there were varying ratios for the film. The difference in ratio isn't that much so probably a non-issue to most, but it is there. Still gallery from the DVD is also missing on Blu, but I barely classify those as extras so no big loss.

I've always been confused about the different versions of Exorcist II. According to everything I've read, the original premiere version was 118 minutes, which is what we now have on DVD and Blu-ray (contrary to what that description says: "It was never released on VHS, LD or DVD or BD.")

And then the recut version that went out into general release was 110 minutes, and this was the version that was available on VHS until the late 80s or so. However, I have a ca. 1983 VHS of Exorcist II, and it runs about 103 minutes or so. Was this further cut down, or was the 110 minute running time always a misprint?

I think we've been had. That release can't be real, but I'd love to be proven otherwise, but I doubt it. And the statement that the director's cut hasn't been released on home video before is simply wrong. That's the version easily available now. The re-edited shorter "theatrical cut" version is the rare one now - and it's odd that that questionable press release calls that version the "theatrical" because the director's cut was also "theatrical" as it came out in theaters first. In any event, I can't imagine Warner issuing this packed edition in any territory in the world, and then limiting it?!?! It must be a fake press release, or a boot - look at the "Limited Edition 20" on the cover - maybe only 20 copies were dubbed off!?!? Hahahaha. Reminds me of when someone claimed they had a DVD of "The Shining" with the original ending intact. This was a good fake out, but it ain't April Fools yet. Prove me wrong.

Interesting stuff for sure. You wonder if the restoration of NIGHTBREED sold well enough that Morgan Creek is willing or interested in letting it out now after all this time.

I'd be happy if they also fixed the broken theatrical cut audio on the current EXORCIST III also, though maybe that will only happen after Morgan Creek's distribution deal moves from Warner Bros. to whoever buys their back catalog.
