Yeah but they're not trying to replicate the theatrical presentation here, which makes the sudden use of the theatrical aspect ratio a weird decision. With the altered IMAX artwork, edited dialogue and missing blue castle logo, this is the home release version of the movie, and the first time the alternate home release version has been seen at 1:85:1.

If people really want the theatrical experience and have the artwork matted, then they should also want the pre-IMAX artwork, as the redone artwork, just like the open 1:66:1 aspect ratio is not authentic to the original presentation.

Unfortunately not but when it came to presenting this new IMAX edition to the world via homevideo, 1:66:1 was their choice. This Blu-ray release is the first time the IMAX cut has been matted.

Exactly my point of view.

You guys that haven't yet seen the new Blu-Ray are disregarding comments about the picture quality, which is simply superb, regardless.

And for the record I was unable to see edge enhancements or any sort of digital filter that could degrade the picture.

No, especially when the loss is so miniscule and the picture itself has much bigger problems than the AR.

No according to Disney's instructions at the time.

"MR. EXHIBITOR PLEASE NOTE

Give your patrons the best possible picture on your theatre screen. For top projection results in the presentation of "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" do not exceed

ASPECT RATIO 1:33 to 1

or you will lose top and bottom of picture"

(NOTE: All DVD releases of "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" are at 1.33:1. As long as these are an open matte transfer, it would be consistent with the theatrical framing.)
They changed their minds on the re-release.

"One Hundred And One Dalmatians" 1979 Re-Release Information:

"The Aspect Ratio for a Spot-tacular Screen Image is 1.75 to 1."

That means about 40 minutes of footage was cut out of the documentary on the US Blu-ray and about 10 minutes on the international Blu-ray. The DVD is the only place where you can watch the full documentary.

I wouldn't call the Europe/Mideast BD the "International BD". Japan, much of Asia, and Latin America haven't gotten a release yet till now, and all of those countries should get the same Diamond Edition bonus features.

Either way, the US BD is a upgrade for me. Never got the Platinum Edition DVD as my family never upgraded titles we had on VHS, so can't wait to get this release.

Unpleasantly surprising that Disney cut out most, if not all, of the parts with Leonard Maltin interviewing the filmmakers, since they helped tie everything together.
Do I need to type a specific description of the "subliminal message" before someone can tell me whether or not Disney cut it out again? If they did put it back, does lossless audio make it any easier not to mis-hear? (I hear half of the line as the "subliminal message", and the other half as what Disney said Scott Weinger actually recorded.)

I don't mind the Leonard Maltin intros being dropped but I still would've included them. Surprised that both Voices Of Aladdin segments were dropped... Hope enough noise will rise for Disney to correct this.

Ok can somebody with in depth Hollywood knowledge Identifiy the following nods that Genie/Robin mimics in Genie Outtakes please

1:30 Mimics a game host, Genie has a humanoid face

1:38 I'm guessin Genie's bein Mr Rogers? Least that's my guess from Robin's vocal tone

2:41 I know he's mimicking a GodFather scene but Who is he?

6:08 Sport Announcer Genie refers this boxing character as Bill, yet I think he's suppose to be Muhammad Ali

6:27 Think I heard Robin use this voice in a Comic Relief sketch, recognized it from ABC's World News Robin Williams Tribute

*sigh*

It's so exasperating how quickly and tenaciously people fall for urban legends. Annoying, also, because even when you correct these false rumors, they sprout up again like dandelions.

@Ernest Rister, thanks for help, I was thinkin the host was Sullivan as well but wasn't sure, so I was right bout Mr Rogers *laughs* would've love to see that bit animated.

Yea the Genie Boxer was the only 1 that puzzled me cause the only boxers that might've worked for the 90s would've been Muhammad Ali or Hurricane (was he boxing round early 90s?)

Well, I don't believe in any "subliminal message" (hence the quotes), but I still felt curious whether or not Disney did anything about the lines this time. When I had the DVD, it seemed kind of awkward that the dialogue suddenly disappeared during that part.

Wonder what the chances of the Best Buy exclusive cover version going to $19.99 are.

Just to be clear, what most are referring to as Edge Enhancement is in fact a Ringing Artifact caused by bad scaling algorithms. The original CAPS resolution is 2048x1234, so some down-scaling is necessary. But as other examples, like Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King (both CAPS), have shown, proper scaling should not introduce this ringing.
And it is definitely not in the source either. The source is CAPS and therefore there is no excuse for any flaws in the encode.
Unfortunately this encode is anything but perfect, considering the unnecessary ringing and the sloppy framing (the tiny black lines left and right).
Rather disappointing they didn't fix these mistakes, that were known for years since the European release, for this Diamond Edition.

Not to be rude but why does this matter? People keep asking this. Who cares how the logo looks does that affect the film itself or this is all just nostalgia?

No it really doesn't. These people are cynical as hell and also apparently love a specific logo for whatever reason.

Also, I DO have TLK, and the second screen (PC/Mac) doesn't work, even you remove the S from the HTTPS of the link (It elicits an error otherwise). It needs to be fixed.
I believe it can't be fixed... At the time Disney was doing The Lion King second screen app, it was being hosted by Sony. They discontinued the contract over three years ago, thus the content is gone... Disney didn't want to go through the hassle of building a new host site and updating the BD.

Yeah, digital future!

Now we are complaining about the logo? Lol ok how many of us complained when Disney used the new logo instead of the original Touchtone logo on The Nightmare Before Christmas re release? Yet people still bought it, wasn't that big of a deal.
