EDIT: Looks like there is a way! I read the update and there's a link to preorder here, awesome! $35 is a lot for one Blu, but I am willing to support the director doing this on his own like that. It's awesome to see.
If everything pulls together (and it appears that it is going to) this will be a truly ultimate Edition of this film. At this point the only thing I believe that was mentioned that thus far isn't going to be included in this release is the Color booklet with essay's and Notes on the film. Unfortunate, but understandable given the additional cost. I'm super happy the restoration Doc made it in, and having multiple audio options, reversible artwork, multiple cuts of the film, a soundtrack, and multiple commentaries, etc are fantastic.

I wasn't planning on watching this release for this years 4th Annual Mega Monster Movie Marathon anyways, so the slight release date bump doesn't bother me too much. I can't wait to see the final product though, it should be something special!

Upcoming opportunity to check this out on the Big Screen! Sadly I won't be able to attend as I live too far away, but for those interested here's the announcement!

Quote:
It's showtime!

Next week, I'll be announcing the world premiere theatrical screening of THE DEAD NEXT DOOR, but I wanted to give our awesome Indiegogo supporters first crack at attending this one-night only event.

The screening will take place at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the luxurious, [REDACTED] in [REDACTED], Ohio — only an hour north of where the film was shot 30 years ago. Mark your calendars!

I'll be in attendance for a Q&A with as many of the cast and crew as I can scrounge up, and we'll be screening the swanky new 16:9 HD master with alternate 5.1 surround mix featuring the voices of the original cast for the first time ever!

I realize most of you live out of state (or in other countries!), but if you can make the trip, Indiegogo supporters will be eligible for discounted pricing of $6.50 per ticket at the box office. In order to receive this rate, [REDACTED].

Looking forward to meeting some of you in person and showing what we've been working on for the last year! I'll try to set up some kind of live Twitter or Periscope during the event for those who can't make it, and will be sure to post plenty of pictures and video for all to see.

See you on the big screen!

J.R. BOOKWALTER
Writer/Director
Check your e-mail if you were an Indiegogo supporter and would like to attend. For everyone else we should see a public open invitation in the next 2 weeks.

Filmed in my home town of Akron, Ohio. I was an extra with zombie makeup and everything but my scene was cut.

Do you recall which scene? There was really only one true deleted scene, and it didn't involve zombies…

We're getting closer!

Quote:
Greetings, supporters!
I'm happy to announce work on the 4:3 1080p HD master and 5.1 surround original cast mix is now complete, and we'll be posting previews online later this week. Hoping to wrap up work on the 16:9 1080p HD master this week and then we'll be frantically assembling the remainder of the Blu-ray extras to ship off for authoring by month's end.

As you can see above, we've also just sent the 27" x 39" double-sided theatrical poster off to the printer, so Indiegogo supporters who purchased this as a standalone perk can expect to receive theirs in early October. (Bundled perks will be shipped together with remaining items in November.) The above image is the "new" side, and you can check out the "classic" side over on the Facebook page.

If you missed out on buying a poster during the campaign, we'll have a limited number available at the Tempe Online Store starting this week. They'll also be available to purchase at the upcoming Cinema Wasteland convention in Strongsville, Ohio from October 2-4 at the Phantom Pain Films table, and on display at the Cleveland Cinemas booth to help promote the upcoming October 13 screening at the Capitol Theatre.

Last but not least, we've also lined up a second screening to announce, and this one is coming straight to downtown Akron, Ohio at The Nightlight a few days earlier, on Saturday, October 10 at 8:30 PM as part of a double bill with the Lucio Fulci classic ZOMBIE! I'll be in attendance for a Q&A after the first film, which will be from the new 4:3 1080p HD master with the classic dubbed mix.

Lots more to talk about in the coming weeks, so stay tuned and stay sick!

The screening will take place at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the luxurious, 420-seat Capitol Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio — only an hour north of where the film was shot 30 years ago. Mark your calendars!

I bought my copy from their site once the IGG campaign ended, so hopefully there will still be some tickets available. If it's not too far from me, I might head out to see it.

I wonder if they'll include the Q&A and other footage as a bonus feature, or if it'll be too late by that point.

Too late. If things stay on schedule the Film will be sent to the Authoring Facility at the end of September. In a previous update is was stated that the authoring will take about a month meaning Blu Rays will start rolling out in early November. You should definitely go if you get the chance. How often do events like this come up. I'd go but I live in Nebraska so it's not really something I could easily do given the time/cost.

As TripleHBK correctly predicted, it will indeed be too late to include on the Blu-ray at that point... didn't want to hold things up any further since shipments have already pushed into November.

However, I was thinking about including the Q&As for both screenings in the VHX bundle, which all Indiegogo supporters will be receiving free anyway! That should hopefully be available mid-October, so everyone should get signed up over the next month and get ready!

Oh, and I forgot to mention, a second screening has also been added at The Nightlight in Akron, Ohio on Saturday, October 10th at 8:30 PM as the first part of a double feature with Lucio Fulci's ZOMBIE!

I'll be on hand for a Q&A after the screening, which will be a completely different presentation than the one in Cleveland, this time with the new 4:3 OAR 1080p HD master and classic dubbed mix in 5.1 surround. Hope to see you there!

The filming location was out on a farm in Ellet off Canton Road. I was in zombie makeup and was clawing at the window of the Zombie Squad car. The scene is in the film but the other Zombies must've been standing in front of me if I remember correctly, because there's no sign of me.
Fun experience, especially for my sixteen year old self and everyone was incredibly nice.

New Update! Check your inbox if you donated.. a 15 minute clip is up for preview! I loaded it up via the Youtube app on my Smart tv and was able to preview it on the Home Theater.

New Campaign Update!
Hello triple_hbk,

The ‘THE DEAD NEXT DOOR Ultimate Edition Blu-ray’ team just posted:

1 new Announcement:

Watch on IndiegogoGreetings, supporters!

Today I have a special treat for you: The full first 15 minutes of "The Dead Next Door" 2K restoration presented in 4:3 original aspect ratio with a stereo version of the all-new mix featuring the voices of the on-screen cast for the first time ever! Be sure to put your browser into Theater View and select 1080p quality for best results, or better yet, bookmark to your YouTube account and watch later on a connected TV device, smartphone, or tablet.

As most of you know, this restoration has been more than a year in the making, so I'm quite excited to finally show off at least a chunk of this work at long last. I wrapped up work on the 16:9 master over the weekend, and am in the process of uploading both versions to VHX, where you'll be able to watch them in their entirety next month ahead of the Ultimate Edition scheduled to ship in November.

Note: This preview is not yet available to the public, so I encourage you to please hold off sharing the link with others until later this week.

Hope to meet some of you at the upcoming Akron and Cleveland theatrical screenings, which will be your first chance to see both restored versions in their entirety! In the meantime, if you haven't already, go sign up for your free VHX account so you'll be ready to watch when your promo code arrives via email!

Until next time!

A reminder to anyone in Northeast Ohio or surrounding areas: There are two theatrical screenings of the 2K restoration coming up in the next week!

THE DEAD NEXT DOOR at The Nightlight (Oct. 10)

The first is this Saturday, Oct. 10 at The Nightlight in Akron, Ohio, only 2 blocks from where some of the opening title zombie mayhem was shot in 1986! This is a small, 52-seat theater, so it's probably a good idea to buy tickets online if you'd like to attend. I'll be in attendance for a Q&A afterward, and we'll be showing the new 4:3 master with classic dubbed mix in 5.1 surround.

THE DEAD NEXT DOOR at the Capitol Theatre (Oct. 13)

The second is on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at the Capitol Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio, a much larger, 420-seat venue. We'll be premiering the new 16:9 master with 5.1 surround original cast mix, and some of the cast & crew will join me afterwards for a Q&A.

While it hasn't been announced just yet, the plan is to unleash free VHX Digital HD codes to all Indiegogo supporters next Friday, October 16, which is also when the general public can place preorders in that format. I'll also be sharing a preview of the first 15 minutes on YouTube next week (4:3 with original cast mix).

The 3-disc Ultimate Edition Blu-ray + DVD + CD is scheduled to ship to Indiegogo supporters next month, with Tempe Online Store orders following close behind. I'll have news on where else the remainder of this 1,000-unit pressing can be purchased online soon!

Still a few preorder copies left, and the reversible theatrical posters are also shipping now.

PREORDER: The Dead Next Door Ultimate Edition (3-Disc Blu-ray/DVD/CD)

The Dead Next Door Reversible Theatrical Poster (27" x 39")

Blu-ray.com members can use the promo code BRDOTCOM at checkout to save 25% off anything in the store (including Ultimate Edition preorders or posters) for a limited time.

That deluxe ed. has some great content. I'd love to see the alternate versions. I sometimes prefer those grittier darker looking presentations over the bright new ones, where FX can look even more fake than they did before. But being $50 for overseas means I should try to be happy with the upcoming UK BD. At least I already have the original soundtrack CDR.

You won me over with that 25% off code. Now my question is: will the UK release have any exclusive extras or anything noteworthy that might make me consider keeping my preorder open? I'm curious about encoding, if one may have the leg up on the other or if the quality will essentially be the same.

The Ultimate Edition actually includes 4 versions of the movie: The original VHS transfer, the 2005 Anchor Bay remaster (both on disc 2, DVD), and both 4:3 and 16:9 restored HD masters (on disc 1, Blu-ray). Plus an expanded CD soundtrack as the third disc!

FYI, this will be the only release to offer every version of the movie. ;-)

I'll be honest, at the moment things are up in the air with the UK release. They're not particularly happy about my Ultimate Edition, so I can't say what, if anything, will be on their release aside from the exclusive artwork they've already revealed -- or even if it's still happening at all.

At any rate, the authoring house for the UE uses the same gear as Criterion, so you can be assured of a top-notch encoding job. They also authored the Synapse DEMONS Blu-ray, so that might also give you some idea of what to expect. ;-)

I am still on the fence. Will the special edition BluRays be shipped appropriately packed in cardboard boxes or just plain bubble envelops? I do not want to spend the money and then receive a special edition with damaged slipcover or case. Please give some information on that. Thanks
