so? The micro-transaction cat is out of the bag, it's simply a part of the new technology economy, and it's not unique to games.
Bungie has been adamant that they'll never adopt a "pay to win" model, and micro-transactions will be limited to optional cosmetic things. They still have a LONG way to go before they have to dip into any "pay to win" type things. Shaders, emblems, and ships at a minimum are all still on the table, and may go pay eventually. I personally don't have any problem with this new reality, I think it gives gamers things we wouldn't get otherwise, and helps games companies stay competitive and fund new content. We have to be vigilant that these companies don't ABUSE the system, and if Bungie does go pay-to-win I'll be one of the first to skewer them for it. But until then I'm taking them at their word. |

Bungie has fewer than 200 employees, and since breaking away from Microsoft and becoming an independent legal entity the only thing they've released is Destiny. If they screw it up, they fold. period. |

Pretty sure he meant Activision, which holds power of the pricing model of destiny.

I have no problem with the micro transactions for stuff that is purely cosmetic. As long as it stays for cosmetic stuff...

Anyone have to finish a sword quest tomorrow? I should be picking up an arc sword. I did not get to play IB tonight. As everyone was otherwise occupied or unresponsive at the time I was looking, I got involved in a CoO T3 marathon with two random fireteams from whom people came and went, probably earned 8 calcified fragments altogether, while similarly charging runes to get them ready. It was quite a good time. Then Casual held a platform, while I retrieved #45, then found a couple of guys to run Undying Mind and the Phobos mission. Nice to be done with that. |

I really don't know what this microtransaction biz is about, but if I ever hear the operator tell me to "Please deposit 20 cents for 5 more minutes" right before I'm about to take down Crota's dad, I'm done with this game.

It's a pretty standard concept in mobile gaming. Free to play games are common, but one they hook you, you get charged for in-game material that makes you more competitive, level up faster, etc. You've head of free-to-play, pay-to-win. $.99 here and there can add up pretty quickly, if you're playing a game every day, and it's a business model in games that easily hook users, like this one. A lot of random reinforcement and farming and grinding activities that take time. Granted, after a few weeks now, the Destiny grind is not what it used to be.

Looks like Bungie is going to fix the Nightfall and make it worth playing again.

One other thing I'll mention: we're guessing Bungie buffed the exotic drops from the Transept chest, as last night in one run 3 (or 4) of us got exotics. Personally, I got a 310 Hawkmoon there. |
