The more I think about it, the more I speculate that the live action TV series might have been a cover for developing the sequel trilogy.

I'm not sure if it's shaming so much as being a prude. People who attend these types of things are usually very respectful. We've all bonded of being picked on for our interests. So what if someone wants to dress as slave Leia, or shirtless wolverine? It's all about having fun and having a good time. If they don't care, why should you?

I would rather be around a bunch of dorks dressed as Darth Maul or Frodo than 350 pound shirtless drunks with face paint on at a sporting event.

Amen to that.

People always get upset at me when I tell them that Fantasy Football is just Dungeons and Dragons for people who think that they're too cool to play Dungeons and Dragons.

you realize it's not an "either/or" proposition right?

It's totally possible to enjoy Star Wars/Star Trek/Comic Books or whatever gets your nerd rocks off, and also really enjoy sports.

This statement applies to people in both groups who think they're mutually exclusive. I play Fantasy Football AND World of Warcraft. It's amazing, I know, but there actually is space in my brain for both.

I'm glad theaters are implimenting the cosplay rules, I hope the AMC I go to does something like this. I'm going opening night Thursday at 7, and a few days ago I was just talking with a friend of mine about that. If somebody were planning to do another theater shooting, it would almost for sure be opening night of the new Star Wars.

I mean, it sucks that we have to resort to this, but shit man-- public shootings seem to be getting trendier.

Overall the series was very disappointing for me. We got to see 3 months after the battle of Endor. There's 29-years and 9 months we didn't get to see any of. This was supposed to be the journey to the Force Awakens. 3 months isn't much of a journey when there's still a huge 29-year gap.
[Show spoiler]I also wasn't impressed with the Empire ripping-off Destro's Weather Dominator.

And the ending to this series with the Jedi trees... I hope that has some sort of payoff in SW 7 or
this was really kind of pointless outside of introducing us to Poe's parents.
You're referring to Shattered Empire (which started good but indeed was a letdown). He was referring to Aftermath (which indeed was also a letdown lol)

The problem with both is that they virtually tells nothing about what is happening between both trilogies. I'm assuming the reason is to leave Force Awakens a surprise. But dammit, there's so much mystery: Are Han and Leia getting separated? (it sure looks they are not together anymore in Episode VII, from what I read), did Luke build a jedi Academy? How did Anakin's blue lightsaber get all over to Jakku? WHy is the Rebellion now called The Resistance?

I sure hope all this is covered later in the movie or subsequent books.

A couple of soccer fans I know look down at people that are into science-fiction and fantasy, but they're no different from cosplayers. They're just another group of fans dressing up like their heroes, but they don't really appreciate that point of view.

Maybe, maybe not. Maybe it's an oral culture like native American culture. Is there a book anywhere in the first six films? I don't remember seeing any.

There's a library in the Jedi temple, but I think it was all eBooks in a galaxy, far, far away.

The Jedi had a library (made mostly by Holocron, which were made so they could be opened by force users) that was promptly put under lock & key by old Palpy, I would not be surprised that all common people had about the Jedi were divulgative stuff (Jedi X did that in year XYZ) with only a few academics knowing something substantial about the Jedi and the fact that the Jedi however numerous weren't that common made it easy for the empire to just say that they were a bunch of self-deluded knight templars that tried a coup.

All AMC theaters are instituting this rule. There was a warning on the purchase page for tickets to not bring weapons of any kind

Over one billion movie tickets have been sold in the US in 2015.

Two people have been killed.

You're ten times more likely to be killed by a cow. You'll be fine.

Save your time and money. "Chappie" is so bad that I wish I could get a refund of my time. Not only is it easily the worst film I've seen this year, it gives me no faith at all for his upcoming "Alien" film. I almost walked out 45 minutes in, but then my "trooper mentality" of staying all the way through because I paid for it kicked in.

You can get a refund if you don't enjoy the movie.
