I find that really weird how they just gave "Rey" force powers there.

Looks like she's a Skywalker.

I wouldn't read into it. It's just a commercial and the kids are having fun "playing" with their new Xmas toys.

The Roman Empire wasn't violently and purposely wiped out (or nearly wiped out) in one day or whatever short period of time as the Jedi were. And people were allowed to talk about it openly without fear of punishment, unlike the Jedi. That's the big difference. The Empire said that the Jedi were traitors who tried to overthrow the Republic; it was the "official story." The new canon novel "A New Dawn" mentions this a little - some people doubted the official story but the average person wasn't going to risk their neck by asking questions about the Jedi.

Anyone else notice that the new battery resembles C-3PO's new color scheme?

The sister also has Luke's lightsaber. Which hopefully means they're making force fx lightsaber of it again!

Well, but that was explicitly bad because she was good, if a female villain is killed it may be implied that was good hence that it was good killing a woman.
Yes, there are people that think like this, especially certain conservative types and a certain sector of feminism.

I think it's Dormé. Sabé was played by Kiera Knightley in The Phantom Menace. Dormé was played by Rose Byrne.

It was Cordé (Veronica Segura) who was killed on the landing platform. Dormé (Rose Byrne) was with Padmé's entourage the whole time they were on Coruscant.

Rose Byrne (right) as Dormé

I thought the Jedi have been around for well over 30,000 years? Unless if they retconned it and it's part of the 'Legends' canon.

This Legends and Current canon is all too confusing since when I was still a major fan of Star Wars back in 2006. Funny enough I've been grabbing quite a lot of Star Wars video games from online to play cause of VII-IX and Rogue One, when the Legends part was still in full swing.
Just need to tell myself it's an alternate universe where thankfully the Yuuzhan Vong or whoever they're spelled isn't around, not the Legacy stuff. But I'll sorely miss Dawn of the Jedi, Tales of the Jedi, Star Wars Infinities, THE Star Wars (Which is great since it uses Lucas' really early scripts for a comic book adaptation), Knights of the Old Republic (Still need to grab the fan updates for II which makes it a more complete game), and a few others.
Come to think of it, I still may give The Clone Wars (CGI) and Rebels a watch if I really want to and I know of a friend of mine I could borrow her Star Wars comics.

But anyway, I've been reading a bit of Wookiepedia to get up to speed with the relaunched canon regarding Episodes VII-IX and Rogue One. Just a bit too confusing and too much to catch up on.

EDIT: STAR WARS: Republic Commando is dawn awesome, glad there's a 1080p patch, bummed out there isn't an Imperial Commando. But regarding the Star Wars video games belong in their own thread.

I don't really buy into all this "you must read these books to understand canon".

I'd rather just play Battlefront and watch the movies. Can't be bothered to read books.

I'm gonna play Battlefront also but it's going to have to be the single player campaign first and online later. I'm fine with reading comics if they're cbr/cbz on my computer or borrowed from friends (preferred TPBs or custom Hardbound) and I'd rather have audiobooks more in line to radio play readings with casts of characters.
Also remembered I sold the bulk of my Star Wars books though, years ago. Might've kept some but I think they might be at my Moms house in her garage.
One book I do highly recommend is the Star Wars Trilogy Annotated Screenplays one. Gives details of all the various concepts and notes from the various scripts, including the proposed 9-12 film concept which kept getting whittled down. Great read and especially nice to have if one is interested in screenplays including the changes made in the drafts and ideas.

All-in-all, I'll mention it again I'm really glad they've ditched the old EU and relegated it into Legends so with the Sequel Trilogy they can have their own ideas.
[Show spoiler]But why is Dash Rendars ship taking off in the background during the Mos Eisley scene in ANH in the 1997/2004/2011 versions? Forget about it.

Maybe playing these video games including watching the sequels including Rogue One will make me a fan again or appreciate the series once more. Just not the same level I used to have until 2006. (Might've already mentioned it in a different Star Wars thread.)

Yes, of course you're right (I just knew it wasn't Knightley's handmaiden). All those handmaidens look alike! I think that's why they're chosen ... one of them got blown up in The Clone Wars as well.

Yeah, if i have to read spin off books and comics to get the story then it will be a horrible film.

I will even go as far to say that JJ knew he was only making one and had the goal to make it the most complete stand alone film that allows the possibility of continuing. I think the force awakens will be able to be watched by people who have never seen a Star Wars anything and follow it.
