Default Sony PS4 Universal Media Remote

I bought the PDP 051-038-NA Universal Media Remote for the PS4 and have had one problem with it. The "Pop-up" button to bring up the pop-up menu while watching a Blu-Ray doesn't work. I contacted PDP, they told me this was an issue they haven't heard of and told me to exchange it for a new one. I did exchange it and the pop-up button still doesn't do anything. I've done a system software update and tried multiple Blu-Rays but the button doesn't do anything at all, not to mention bring up the pop-up menu. Has anyone else had this problem?

There's a thread in the PS4 forum regarding this remote and the same thing is mentioned there. Pretty crazy. Guess quality control isn't what it used to be. So sad. Pathetic really. What I'm waiting for is an IR to Bluetooth converter, so that I can properly integrate a PS4 with the rest of my home theater setup. I own a couple of the ones found here for my PS3's. Couldn't fathom owning a PS3 without one.

Yeah, the PS3 remote (I believe also by PDP) was perfect. But like a lot of people, I upgraded to the PS4.

Ouch!

There is a bucket list of problems.

I can't believe they would release such a shoddy product. The PS3 remote is rock solid.

That's cause Sony let another company make it instead of them doing it themselves.

That's true.

Though I'm still bummed to hear it fail in simple tasks. PDP does make at least 1 great accessory for PS4 & that's the Energizer Base which recharges two of your controllers.

It seems the only thing they got from Sony's permission was likeness rights to the actual media remote.

Sad thing is Sony doesn't fix via software 3rd party accessories by firmware. Had it been their own, then yeah a fix (if needed) would be in the next update.

I cant believe PDP hadn't heard of this issue? Did they test it thoroughly before touting "complete control"? I'm going to return mine to Best buy. Volume punch through doesn't work for amps/receivers either. Also, its overly slim in design and you can't really feel out the buttons so using in a dark viewing environment is cumbersome. The inability to access pop-up menu is a biggie. I also find I have to push pause multiple times sometimes to get it to work. I figured a licensed product would be fully compatible. I should have waited for reviews but I got tired of setting down my PS4 controller only to have it start fast forwarding due to the dumbass triggers.
