Is it a BD-R or a pressed blu-ray disc?

Frankly, I'm not entirely sure how to tell the difference. I would say pressed (it seems to have the scratch-resistant coating required by the BD spec), but it does have a strange look to it in that you can see the section of the disc with data encoded on it, which I've never noticed on other discs (FYI, the same studio released the BACK IN TIME documentary and it features the same unorthodox appearance on its data layer).

A GOOD MARRIAGE:

That would be a BD-R.

Again, it seems to have the requisite scratch resistant coating so is there any qualitative drawback to a BD-R over a pressed one?

I'm not sure, but it seems cheap and lazy and isn't that different from what people could burn at home with a BD burner drive. I'm not sure if BD-R are more prone to failing or have a higher chance of having write-errors versus pressed media, but they're certainly cheaper to make.

They don't last as long for archiving purposes

These appear to be releases from Screen Media. I just checked some of the recent movies I got from Screen Media: "About Alex" and "Alex of Venice". They are just like the disc the OP showed for A Good Marriage. They appear to be BD-R discs. These are definitely crap releases with poor audio and likely inferior video. My Oppo 83 will not even play these discs. They take long to load and then say "unknown disc" even though my player should play BD-R discs. My PS4 will play the disc but the audio is definitely crap. I was intending on ordering some future Screen Media releases (Faults, 10 Rules For Sleeping Around, Authors Anonymous) but I am leary to do so now. Some of these movies have Region B import versions available but others do not. I have "The Lifeguard" and "A Good Marriage" imports and those discs are definitely quality releases with BD discs and DTS audio. If you have a region free player the imports are the better option. For those movies that have no international release there is no other option. Good luck.

Well, to be fair, I find the image quality of both A GOOD MARRIAGE and especially BACK IN TIME to be spot on, and though I'm disappointed by the unexcusable lack of high-resolution audio, the sound on both seems to still be clear and clean.

I had noticed that there are a few non-U.S. options for A GOOD MARRIAGE but my player isn't region-free and I could find no proof of their region-lock status one way or the other, so rather than risk flushing my money down the toilet, I went ahead waited for this Region A release.
