I'm counting the minutes, my friend. I'm counting the minutes...

Meanwhile, I watched my Criterion Blu-ray of The Honeymoon Killers (1969) yesterday.

Think of The Honeymoon Killers as a hybrid of classic-era film noir and 1960s exploitation cinema.

There actually was a classic-era film noir, Lonely Heart Bandits (1950), that was based on the same Lonely Heart matchmaking service murders that The Honeymoon Killers were based on. It's not out on Blu-ray, though.

I might have to pick up The Honeymoon Killers. I've never seen it, I've just read reviews.

Finally got around to watching the 1947 film, THE RED HOUSE, which is on a very scrubbed and video looking Blu, though still conditionally watchable. I hadn't seen it for a long time and liked it very much, but it seems more of a melodrama than a true noir. Psychologically it skirts noir territory, but I'm not sure I would classify it as one beyond the fringes. What say you?

I would say that The Red House is on the outer edges of film noir, but I love that movie.

It's a real shame that Allene Roberts was not featured in more movies. She's also great in Union Station.

I don't mind my Film Chest Blu-ray. I would love to see a better transfer come down the pipes, but it is what it is.

I also love the film. A very daring performance by Edward G., but I've come to never expect anything less from him, my third favorite actor of all time. I agree with you about Allene, both she and Lon McCallister are very natural and believable, something that is essential for a film of this type. Rosza's score gets a bit too emphatic at times, but in other scenes it's quite subtle and effective. I've always been a fan of Delmer Daves' films and this one is definitely among his best.

As for the Blu, I will say it's the best I've ever seen the film look in terms of print quality, but like most of us here, I wouldn't mind a few scratches and marks along with natural grain instead of excessive DNR. Still though, lately I find myself trying to ignore the digital interference and focus on the movie as best I can.

Kino recently announced A Kiss Before Dying (1956). Would you guys consider it a noir title, or no? It seems to hover the line of one, but not quite sure whther it is or not based on the premise and trailer.

I've heard A Kiss Before Dying mentioned in noir circles before, and the Internet Movie Database has it listed as a film noir.

Many film noir historians have a cool term for all of the films from the classic era that skirt the edges of film noir. They refer to them as "noir-stained." I like that. It occurs to me that most of the Blu-rays in my collection that this site lists as films noir are actually "noir-stained" films. It's not a stretch to consider them all as films noir, though.

It's also listed in the Film Noir: The Encyclopedia book.

IMO it is film noir in substance and an entertaining film.

I watched Pitafall last night and I was not impressed with the blu-ray at all. I've never seen the DVD but have seen it on TV several times. I guess we should be happy it still exists but the rounded corners were really distracting and the whites are really blown out.

Just watched Laura (1944). Really enjoyed it. Enjoyed most film noir films I've seen, but I need to see more.

Have a few, not sure which to get next. Searching collection here, I have: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/searc...1&sortby=title

My personal favorite is The Killing followed by The Big Heat. Those are two movies everyone should have in their collection.

I'm still waiting on Amazon to ship my preorder. It seems it's the norm for them to wait half a week if you aren't a prime member.

My copy of Pitfall is en route from Family Video, I can't wait to get it. I am also attending a seminar tomorrow that Eddie Muller is speaking at on film noir, I am super excited and its free so you can't beat that!
