I did think that opening sequences were not nearly as good as other Bond films.

But we're off track... you've convinced me. SPECTRE is the most airtight of all Bond films. Every problem I had with it was clearly imagined on my part. For example, why was
[Show spoiler] Hinx trying to kill Bond on a train that was already on its way to take Bond to Blofeld? Especially since there was a Rolls Royce to pick up Bond and Swan on the other end to take them DIRECTLY to Blofeld?
That's just me askin' stupid questions, I guess. A more perfect screenplay there never was.

Except it isn't the worst Bond movie ever because it isn't even remotely made bad. It isn't Moonraker dumb, Ocotopussy boring, TWINE terrible, or even DAD bad. The opening scene alone makes it better than all three of those. Just because you did not enjoy it does not qualify it as a bad movie because that implies it was poorly shot, poorly acted, poorly edited, poorly paced, etc. And no matter what you say about the later three, it was beautifully shot. That is a fact.

I absolutely love that moment.

"This... is for my brother."

*Bond kills him*

"And that was for 009."

I enjoyed 'Spectre' but honestly feel it could have been about a half-hour shorter (and not lost anything except some really slow scenes). I gave it 4 out of 5 in the poll.

'Skyfall' remains my favorite Bond film.

I seriously enjoyed this. It was fun. Obviously not good as Casino Royale or Skyfall, but it didn't need to be. It was so much fun! The action scenes are fantastic, the cinematography is excellent, and while the storybwas slightly weak, it still kept me interested. I actually like that it wasn't as serious as Skyfall (and some people are exaggerating, comparing it to the Roger Moore Bonds? Really?). Like Casino Royale was like the origin story of Bond, in this film, it feels like he's become the Bond that we all came to love, and I like that. I don't think the tonal shift from Skyfall to this was jarring at all. I dont get any of the hate this is getting, this was great. Only thing I didn't like was Bond saying the "shaken not stirred" line. That seemed kinda corny, it was already referenced in Royal (does it look like I give a damn?), so to see it blatantly in your face here was kinda silly. Besides that though, the movie was good. Loved Waltz in this role, I thought I was growing out of him because of Big Eyes, but in this he proved he's just as good as he's always been. Anyway guys, this movie is soo much better than Quantum. You can't even compare the two. This is a solid 8/10.

Spectre is a solid entry in the James Bond franchise. Although, for the most part a whole lotta nothing happens for majority of the movie until the last 30-45 minutes. Not as great of a movie that Skyfall.

3.5/5

I'm not saying you need to like every thing about the movie. Or that you even need to like the movie. I'm saying that some of your criticisms are flat out foolish. There is no way this movie is worse than Moonraker, DAD, TWINE, or Octopussy.

But whatever, I'll stop.

You can't have it both ways. We're all tacitly discussing our opinions but your language and arguments don't add up to much except "I'm right and you're wrong".

As the latest example, you said someone's criticisms were "flat out foolish" and then stated there is "no way" he can have an opinion that's different than yours.

Hinx wasn't hired, he himself is
[Show spoiler]a member of SPECTRE who just wants Bond out of the way for interfering too many times (and to settle unfinished business from Rome). I don't think Blofeld ever hired him or told him to go after Bond; that was just Hinx doing his own thing. And besides, I don't think Blofeld would have complained if Hinx had been successful and actually killed Bond before he ever reached Tangier.

Watching this again last night, noticed a couple of things.
[Show spoiler]When Bond arrives at the clinic where Madeleine works, there's a shot of a plane on a runway. I don't think it's too far-fetched to imagine that there were other planes, which could be taken by Bond.
Most people (including myself) wondered how Christoph Waltz managed to survive the explosion, but as Bond was flying off in the helicopter, you can see a couple of cars driving away below them.

Kinda skimmed the thread as there's a lot being discussed, so sorry if anyone's already mentioned those.

Regarding the big explosion...

[Show spoiler]I was under the impression that Blofeld engineered, or at least aided, most of the explosion at the lair, because he wanted to destroy the information, but also because he wanted to everyone to assume that he was dead. The dude is pretty smart.

Octopussy > Spectre

I liked it, but I did have to turn my brain off for some aspects of the film. Second or third favorite bond entry.

The opening tracking shot was pretty cool but once you get to the helicopter it all falls apart into ridiculousness.

As the owner of essentially a C-X16 I was most excited about the DB10 vs C-X75 car chase. How could they have two of the coolest movie cars in recent memory and end up with a chase as boring and uninspired as that? Such a wasted opportunity. But that became the theme. Spectre is a string of wasted opportunities.

The middle act dragged like no other. Even the third act dragged until the finale which showed the first sign of intensity from JB which then disappeared as fast as it came.

I'm definitely done with Craig as Bond. Time for another refresh.

2.5/5 (rounded to 3 in the poll.)

Pretty much my thoughts. There was nothing special or unique about the action or predicaments Bond had to get himself out of. A car chase which was just a "see if you can follow me" and a handful of shootouts.

And this huge "we are everywhere" organization that was unstoppable had the least imposing super villain ever. What a waste of Waltz. No challenge once it was him vs Bond. And another torture scene (see Casino Royale and Le Chief's ball buster) and also running around an abandoned building to find a trapped love interest (see Vespa in Venice).

I definitely felt that an arc spanning all the Craig films about this untraceable secret society came to an underwhelming conclusion, with no real twist.

Casino Royale is a Bond film that tries not to be one, Quantum of Solace is a Bourne film, and Skyfall is an action film that tries to be a Bond film. Spectre is a Bond film that follows the classic formula, it's the Bond movie I've been craving for years. I couldn't stop smiling in the theater, I was so happy that the series is finally back to where it was before Craig took the role. If Bond 25 continues this path I'll have zero complaints about Craig's portrayal.

I know that people have criticisms and I'm not dismissing them, but to me, this movie is what the series is about. Skyfall and especially Casino Royale are great films and I like them very much. But Spectre, to me, is a great Bond film. I could not be happier with how it turned out.
