Why does it even matter? Is there this rule that assassins have to strike immediately at every occasion? It's a fun fight scene in a fun film, I enjoyed it.

The Brazil theory is interesting and very cool, but yeah, I'm pretty sure everything we saw from
[Show spoiler]Blofeld's base to the end of the movie
actually happened (for better or worse). The next movie is not going to start with Bond
[Show spoiler]still being strapped to that chair with a needle in his skull
.

The script definitely has some big issues in the last hour. But I think people who are nitpicking things like why Hinx
[Show spoiler]would wait til dinner to attack
or how would Bond know to
[Show spoiler]break down a wall because a mouse showed him
are missing the forest for the trees. Little things like that (I honestly don't even think they're issues) are nothing compared to the bigger problems in the third act. But even then, the movie remains good fun. Like a Bond movie should be. (At least it was for me.)

Rewatched QoS last night after about a year. Man, that movie rocks. Whenever I spend time away from it, all the negativity about it gets back into me, but then actually watching it brings all the enjoyment back. Still not much of a Bond movie, but a really nice action movie, and the whole thing just flies by. (I guess the entire movie doesn't make much sense now, though, since Greene tried to kill Bond even though he should've known that
[Show spoiler]Blofeld
would wanna keep Bond alive )

I do like QoS. I'll be giving the previous Craigs another viewing leading up to Spectre (my local doesn't get it until the 27th!) so I'll be sure to chip in with my thoughts in the 007 thread.

Spectre was the first Bond to go back to the older style. Its the Goldfinger to Skfall's FRom Russia With Love.

It's not a perfect film, but it's a damn good Bond film that isn't without it's issues.

Questioning whether its a Bond style film is extremely silly. It's pretty much the closest we've had to an old school Bond film a cross between Connery and Moore with a Craig sensibility.

The action in this film was extremely well-done and well shot, in other words the opposite of the mess that was Quantum of Solace(still the worst film in the Bond cannon)

It stays close enough to the vision of Bond from both the films and the books but luckily swerves from the negativity of both. (for instance Goldfinger and Casino Royale are both great Bond films but completely faithful adaptions of those novels would not serve anyone well.

It's easier to remember the negatives than it is the positives. That's just how life works.

And you know this how? You've been a member of a terrorist organisation I suppose? You're making exactly the same mistake the other guy did.

If you think about it, it's actually sensible to attack them while having dinner. They're both sitting down and off guard. Remember attacking Bond is not like mugging a tourist on the street, he's a dangerous spy who has foiled Spectre's plans through three movies.

Anyway the obvious answer is that Bond and Swann had locked themselves in their cabin and were..er...enjoying each other's company enormously...before dinner. I don't blame him

Maybe Hinx wanted to relax and get a meal in before his attack? Chasing Bond around the world is tough business. They should have shown him chowing down on a steak in the background during Bond and Swann's dinner conversation.

Dozens of characters from Oddjob to Jaws have been doing it, I don't see why you think Hinx doesn't follow the same pattern.

[Show spoiler]9 Eyes is not in operation at that point, so they don't have eyes everywhere.
They must be fairly large, if Spectre encompassed LeChiffre and Silva's operations, as well as Quantum. How would Blofeld know what any individual member of any of those branches were doing at any one time? And if he really wanted Bond for himself, wouldn't he have instructed LeChiffe, Silva and Green to tell their men not to try to kill him? Yet they did. Your theory doesn't stack up.
Whatever you say Sparky!

Agreed! I wanted to see a good Bond movie and I got SPECTRE instead. As you say... my bad luck.

Especially when the negatives far outweigh the positives. That's just how this film works.

That alone would make it my favorite bond film. That'd have been great!

Goldfinger and Skyfall have one key element in common - neither has a story that makes sense. The difference is that Goldfinger doesn't take itself seriously...

As for criticisms of Brosnan's tenure... I like Daniel Craig a lot as Bond, but I firmly believe Brosnan could have pulled off the reboot just as well given the same material. Roger Moore couldn't have done what Timothy Dalton subsequently did, but Brosnan could've done as well as Craig given the chance.

Maybe he was psyching himself up, I mean it's Bond. His record vs. henchman must be about 75-0.

Even if I knew the absence of Roger Deakins would be noticeable, I was still pretty confident and thought Mendes would do once again a very good (or even terrific) job given the maestria of Skyfall. Big mistake ! Instead of a great episode, we've got some kind of uninspired mishmash of the Daniel Craig's area which almost made me regret the quite average (and often unloved) Quantum of Solace. It's simple, apart from the opening credits scene which is absolutely beautiful and the fight sequence in the train with David Bautista (who's waaayyy better as a vilain than Christoph Waltz), there's really not much to save from that Spectre. Even the prologue in Mexico with the day of the dead celebration which could have been awesome is a failure for me (such a shame this wonderful context isn't exploited). Really a huge, huge disappointment...

I kept thinking what would the opening look like if Deakins shot it

Was talking about the introduction in Mexico, I really don't understand how a talented dp like Hoytema (his work on Interstellar and Her is just fantastic) could have made all these incredible & colourful costumes look so flat. Seems everyone on this film was tired...

Wait, what was the problem with Hoytema's work? (At least until it got back to
[Show spoiler]London in for the finale
, cuz that stuff looked like ass for some reason.) Movie didn't look as great as Skyfall and QoS, but it still looked good, I thought.
