What these people choose to ignore is that many artists are self-deprecating and will criticize their work no matter how much others like it. That isn't always the case, of course, but it's very common. And him saying he winged it doesn't mean he thinks it's a piece of shit and wants to distance himself from it.

They have barely mentioned HFR since the poor response to it during the first hobbit film. I went out of my way to see all three of the movies with HFR and I was very impressed with the experience. While I can certainly see what some people had a problem with, it did not really bother me. I remember before the first movie came out, there was an online featurette about the use of HFR and how it affected the overall contrast of the film as well as the necessity to use actual hair and wigs and different types of fabric. Sadly, it looks as if none of that content made its way onto the discs.

Isn't there some HFR stuff on those webisodes that they put on the AUJ theatrical bonus features? Maybe I'm mis-remembering. In any case, I only saw HFR 3D for the last movie and loved it. Wish that there was more insight into it on the Blu-rays, but we've got plenty of other stuff instead. (I do think Jackson talks a bit about HFR in the AUJ commentary but I may be misremembering that as well, it's been a while.)

Yes, one of the earliest web doc thingies is about the cameras, but even then it's more about shooting 5K and 3D and the odd colour response of the RED cameras (didn't they have to add a load of magenta into the production design so it reads properly?) than it is HFR.
Speaking of the appendices, I wondered why there was no Dol Goldur stuff in the Smaug EE extras, did they cover that shooting block in the Five Armies EE appendices? |

That's exactly what happened; Thrain and the Galadriel/White Council material was all part of one shooting block. Pretty fun to watch how irreverent the whole cast was while shooting it, they clearly had a good time. Also nice, if bittersweet, to see Sir Christopher Lee shooting his material.

Have you guys tried to watch the saga in chronological order ???
I did it, and works perfectly... and yes, I particulary mean the "fakeness" of The Hobbit adds to LOTR greatness. You can feel how things just got serious, real serious and dark and dramatic, and a lot more epic. And feeling even more rounded. Even the last Bilbo scene in ROTK "I'm think I'm quite ready for another adventure" feels a lot more deep. At least for me it works seamlessly. Last edited by Oscarilbo; 11-20-2015 at 06:35 PM. |

Are these the same?
1. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-H...lu-ray/145824/ It states that it's the extended 3D version, 5-disc, also it says 182 min. For what google translate can help me with, it also looks like in Amazon Japan that it's the extended 3D version. But.... what's this then? 2. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-H...Blu-ray/80647/ It also says extended 3D version, but 166min:-/ and 6 discs, but more expensive.... Also from Amazon Japan I seem to translate it to, it gives me the same information as number 1. But why is it more expensive then? Can anyone tell me what the difference is? Does anyone own them? live pics please. And are they region free? Information and help with this mystery is much appreciated ![]() ![]() |
