I see you have 55 Criterions out of 169 movies.
https://www.blu-ray.com/community/co...ction=overview

i wonder what happened here.

edit 2:
Oh, i know.
The Entertainment One Canada studio that appears in the statistics is Criterion too.
So, you own: 11,1 +30,6= 41,7% Criterions!!
That sounds more like it.
or no?
Hmm. It should be around 30%.
What are those EOne Blurays?
are they Criterions and something else?
hmm... actually that's not all that bad. o_o i thought it was higher for some reason...

also entertainment one is a canadian distributor I think? I never understood it, I think it's beyond ****ed how bad our distribution network is. can't get a lot of shit here... has to be imported from the US. and because our dollar is basically only worth 2/3 of yours, a typical import which would cost you guys 15-18 dollars costs me over 25. sometimes over 35... its real dumb.

(those Eone Blurays are Criterion and other movies that you have in your collection)
I went by your categorizing. (55 out of 169 is around 32%)
edit: Oh, now you changed it to 61.

I'm not one of the guys since I live in Greece, so basically EVERYTHING is an import for me!
But fortunately I haven't paid any custom fees on Blurays ever.
Only the shipping raises the price.

I'm the clear winner here, hands down.

54.3% of my blu-ray collection is Criterion.

That's more than half.

Beat that, kids.

actually I forgot to add 5 or so criterions to the right category >.<
so the percentage is different now.

does anyone know how the eone company works? as I understand they handle distribution of american labels in canada? its weird, because you don't see their name anywhere on the movie, or even on the movie case itself.

You people all put me to shame with your collections.

I've been told size isn't important...but um...yeah.

Anyway, I'm off to rewatch Seconds and I feel great about it.

By the way, I just put Doritos on a frozen pizza.

Nacho Cheese Doritos and bacon and extra cheese.

...it's glorious.

all hail the criterion king, jw007!

but honestly, once I start grabbing more traditional releases, that percentage is going to skew sharply downwards. since there's "only" about 30-35 more criterions that I seriously have my eye on. anything onwards from that would just be carefully researched decisions on my part if I want to grab, or impulse buys. but once it gets to that point, I imaigne I won't be getting more then 2-3 criterions a month.

oh, and you gotta understand, I've only been buying blus since august this year. been going at a steady pace since then, but I think at this rate in 3-4 years I'll have over a thousand blus. hehe.

Rewatch?
Didn't you just watch the film yesterday I think?

Anyway, whatever suits you.
I watched once Disney's Beauty and the Beast, 3 times on the same day!
(the day I got the VHS after my initial viewing in the theater)

Also, since we're talking percentages, Twilight Time is the first studio in my collection (15,6%), since they release more films that interest me.
Criterion is 3rd (13,5%).

making "nachos el grande" with doritos is secretly amazing.
does anyone here ever make that? it makes for excellent movie food, actually

the only problem is doritos tend to burn easily so you gotta cook everything beforehand before melting the cheese on top

Thank you sir.

It's been a running joke in here for years just how much of a Criterion maniac I am.

I started purchasing blu-rays in the Autumn of 2011 and its consistently Criterions that compel me to keep buying BDs.

Of course, I'm picky, and who isn't about certain things? I only buy movies that I'm a fan of or actually like. For instance, I'm not a big James Bond fan despite my screenname being "007" and don't own nor have any desire to own a James Bond film. My avatar from "Under the Skin" I've had doesn't mean I like that movie, nor do I own it (yet). So its really unorthodox how I choose to go about regarding purchasing films. I lean towards movies that aren't popular though but have a special place in my heart for being strange, offbeat, obscurist, escapist and sometimes cult.

Here's hoping to continue my Criterion upward trend.

Good god, man. Seek help.

Criterions are nice and all, but there are some things that just aren’t done. Such as drinking Dom Perignon ’53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s just as bad as listening to the Beatles without earmuffs, or having a Blu-ray collection without Bond.

I don't own any Bond, and I doubt that will change any time soon frankly.

hey oildude, remember that post you made a few months ago, suggesting all the criterions I should get? I'm pretty close to getting everything off your list (minus the collections like tati, etc, because I refuse to get their awful packaging which will just get worse over time)

I think I'm about 5 or 10 movies short. when I finish it, you have to give me a 2nd list!

Owning the entire Criterion BD collection would require a purchase of "Tiny Furniture". Kudos to CriterionBlues on owning the whole collection, but shelling out money for "Tiny Furniture" is something I don't know that I could do.

While I'm no Lena Dunham fan by any stretch of the imagination, I think there are other titles in the collection which I would have a harder time buying.

Looks like I am all out of thanks or I'd give you one. I really would consider getting the Tati and Jacques Demy sets. Not sure why you would deny yourself two of the finest sets of films ever released on Blu-ray based on speculation about their packaging. I have had them both ever since they were released, both have had numerous handlings, all the films have been watched. Unless you have a dog that eats cardboard I wouldn't worry about the sturdiness of the boxes. Both sets have held up just fine, as have all of my Criterion box sets.

And how can you not get both of these with the B&N 30% off coupon this weekend? Now is the time to pounce. Trust me, you won't regret it. Tati and Demy are two of the desert island choices in the Criterion Collection.

This is what I wrote about both sets back in the summer:

For anyone looking for box set recommendations - or just a Criterion recommendation in general - I think you cannot go wrong with these. Both include some of the greatest films ever made and I cannot recommend these sets highly enough.

If you think of French cinema only in terms of Godard, Truffaut, Assayas, Melville, Bresson, Malle, Chabrol, Renoir, etc, prepare to have your cinematic world expanded with warmth, humor, old-fashioned romance, incredible musical scores, biting satire, clever visual gags, commentaries on social dislocation and modernity done with a wink, a song, or a humorous routine that proves every bit as insightful as any screed from Godard (but infinitely more enjoyable), mind-blowing sets, bright candy colors and luminous blacks and whites. Stories that will move you, entertain you, maybe make you tear up a bit, most certainly give you a barrel of smiles for every sadness....all done with a sense of wonder, absurdity, and a love of life that is on display in every frame. Most of all, they will make you realize just how terrific it is to be alive, a film fan, and able to experience the joy of discovering movies like this for the first time.

I am VERY impressed having gone through these sets back to back for the past month. Mon Oncle, Playtime, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, The Young Girls of Rochefort....... if you are a fan of well-done musicals and emotionally investing stories, or if the wonderful charm of silent comedy-inspired humor and slapstick tickles your funny bone, you cannot go wrong here. My view of French cinema is forever changed. Melville is still the king of the mountain, but Tati and Demy are sitting just a few feet below. Fantastic directors with an amazingly rich body of work.

I think we have a couple of friends on this forum who have complete collections of Criterion blu-rays. Remember, though ... if you have 300 Criterions out of 600 blu-rays, your percentage is 50%. If you have that same 300 out of 1200 blu-rays total, your percentage is only 25%. So it's a proportional kind of thing.

The greatest portion of all my blu-rays are Criterions at 17.2%, followed by Warner Brothers at 14.3% and 20th Century-Fox at 12.5%. Of the other boutique labels, Olive Films is at 2.0%. Only 1.4% of my collection are Twilight Time releases.
