See, this worries me. I hope they don't try that in the film again. I think the problem with the '09 reboot, as much as I enjoy it, is the CW actors and the glossy aesthetic. It just doesn't fit in a Friday the 13th film IMO.

If it were up to me I'd keep the budget low, shoot it on film, use only practical effects, set it in the 80's and cast only unknowns (lets face it Jason is the star). I'd later 'scratch' the film to add to that pulpy old time feel. Friday the 13th should play like it's a 'video nasty' of the era. Job done!

Yeah, and the day after you did that the studio would fire you.

Yep. It's amazing to me how clueless the people making the calls are sometimes. This series of films is one fo those rare occasions where it virtually takes care of itself. It's possibly one of the 'easiest' films to make. No film is easy per se but you get the point.

I'm not arguing with you at all. But the 2009 film was fairly profitable -- $65M dom., $91M ww., on a $19M budget. And these are businesses after all.

Oh yeah, me neither, friendly discussion.

Okay, so $65m domestic...

Remember that the theatres take a big chunk of that (a third I believe, correct me if I'm wrong) so there's roughly $22m gone already. Then take away the budget, which is another $19m (insanity BTW, it's F13!) and you're left with $24m. Factor in the Marketing costs that could easily have been $10m+ and **** knows what they're left with? Not a lot I'm guessing. I excluded International Box Office because I'm pretty sure the studio gets very little of that money. Like a small percentage.

Think about it this way too, if it was so profitable wouldn't they have churned out the sequel pretty damn quick, like 2011 at the latest? As you say it IS a business. All said and done I'd say the film just about broke even, or made a very slight profit which is why we've been waiting so long on another one.

I think we can agree though, a $19m budget on a Friday the 13th film is ****ing mental.

It is fairly mental, yeah. I wonder where all that money went, frankly.

The economics of modern filmmaking is crazy in general. But you're right: If it had been that profitable, they would have made another one. Good point.

Last month it was revealed that the in-development Friday the 13th reboot had been delayed until 2017 and now TheWrap brings word that the film’s director David Bruckner, who previously directed The Signal and the “Amateur Night” segment in VHS, is no longer attached to the project. The outlet notes that while the film’s producers rework the script, they didn’t want to tie the director down to the project as development continues.

Building off of that story, Variety reports that Prisoners and Contraband writer Aaron Guzikowski, who is also penning one of the planned Universal Monster movies, has entered negotiations to write the script for the film, taking over from Hannibal scribe Nick Antosca. They report that the film’s plot is “under wraps,” but the smart money would be that it centers on hockey-mask wearing killer Jason Voorhees stalking and slashing teenagers at Camp Crystal Lake.

The Friday the 13th franchise currently consists of ten original “solo” films, the 2003 crossover Freddy vs. Jason, and, most recently, the 2009 reboot. There was also a short-lived television series that, despite its title, was unconnected to the plot of the film franchise. A new Friday the 13th television series is also currently in development for The CW.

Paramount Pictures currently has Friday the 13th is set for release on January 13, 2017.

I could pee inside of a convenience store and come up with a script faster than these ass clowns.

Well, anyone who has both Prisoners and Contraband on his resumé is A-OK in my book. I mean, come on.

You know who would be great in this film, Alexandra Daddario.

As much as I'd like to see more of her and think she'd be a good fit for a Friday the 13th film, I want a cast of relatively or even completely unknown up and coming actors because it'd add to the realism. Lets be honest, Jason Voorhees is the draw of the franchise. People don't want to see 'name' actors in a film like this. They want to see Jason kill some people, and be scared/have fun while he does it.

That said, if they announced her starring in the film tomorrow, I'm not going to complain.
