Good call - from the view the ref had the QB will always get the benefit of the doubt.

+ lead by 20pts + give up hail mary = deserve to lose.

Chalk it up to one of the worst defensive plays ever in an obvious hail mary situation, not the prior play.
You'd think putting Megatron or another great WR/TE in at Safety for the last play would be wise.

I certainly remember a situation just like this one in last season's AFC Divisional Playoff Ravens @ Patriots. Game had seconds left to go, and it was a given that Flacco would attempt a 60-something yard pass to the end zone, so BB put Gronk in at Safety.

If I'm not mistaken, Calvin Johnson was in on the play.

Inexplicably he wasn't there. I guess they figured, what are the odds?

My bad, I could have sworn I saw him leaping up and then coming down at one point, but then again I was a bit toasty from drinking all game.

Better safe than sorry I always say. That's a pretty big oversight. Bottom line is the GB WRs totally shielded/walled off the DET CBs anyway.

You realize what you are indirectly saying is that it's ok to get calls wrong if they are hard to get right?

That's what people talking about "The view of the ref" are saying.

The reason I'm so vehement about this is that the #1 thing I hate about the NFL is the "QB is a special snowflake" syndrome. I despise that crap, even though I understand it, and this is just another example of that.

Better not breathe on the QB too hard, otherwise you'll get flagged for a 15 yard penalty.

EDIT: Incidentally, I also hate the "Detroit had a 20 point lead, they should have won". From my perspective, they DID win. And it got stolen from them by a bad ref call. Yes, the played the hail mary terribly. A play that shouldn't have occurred to begin with.

You realize how ridiculous that sounds, you opponent outscored you 27-3 in the final 20 minutes of the game. If you give up that many points in that much time its not stolen its a bad play. Its the same thing as if your down to a 4th and 1 if you cant get 1 yard, just 1 yard you dont deserve to win because your not good enough.

Detroit had plenty of chances they blew it by not playing hard the full 60 minutes. Same crap they pulled against San Diego and Seattle. Had Detroit played hard it is very feasible they are sitting at 7-5 instead of 4-8

Im saying its impossible for the ref to have the perfect angle on every play & even the lions defenders reaction after the play was like he made a foul.

& yes qbs are the lifeblood of teams - nobody wants to watch games on tv with backup qbs playing so all the protection they get im all for.

Yes, but this hit did not matter. He was a runner, not a passer, so the only his to his head that are penalties are late hits, helmet to helmet and facemask. This was none of those.

Do this:

Start up a ~11bil/year business. Endure a massive 200 part lawsuit filed by ~5000 ex-employees, to the tune of just under $1bil, that took over 3years to hammer out(legal fees aren't cheap), which will be paid out over the next 65 years.

Then post what you just said.

He's still a QB in any situation. Running, passing, sliding, scrambling, spiking, etc.
QBs are protected like rare artifacts in museums. Any defensive player should know that by now.

So after reading about that throw, and seeing Rodgers amazing pass almost hit the rafters, that a rule exists if the ball were to strike those rafters the play would be blown dead and done over.
Now I've never been to the new Dallas stadium, in person, but isn't that big ass tv pretty low, by most standards. Depending on field position, why would you ever throw the ball out of bounds? Just hit that sucker, on a busted play and get another chance?
