Tempting, but there's not really anything that I can't wait until February for when all the regular releases will be $5-$6 cheaper in the flash sale.

What a visual and aural masterpiece!
The colors, the light, the matte paintings..
If only it was longer..

How I would wish for a Sirk boxset!
I had the opportunity to see it on the big screen a year or so ago. Great experience! The audience laughed in all the "right" places with the little gay references (except for an older couple who seemed oblivious to it and looked around in angry confusion whenever it happened).

A Sirk boxset would be great. I need to see more of his movies.

My sympathies. As a Vikings fan, I've had a taste of what you guys are going through. For a while the only consolation was "at least we're not the Browns".

From a purely cinematic standpoint, I find the final half or so of titanic thrilling and incredibly well made. Throw out some of the cheese of the overall story and Cameron's ability to engage the viewer in his action and suspense scenes is second to none. I highly recommend finishing it.

I haven't watched it in years, but I loved it upon its initial release, so I, too, would recommend finishing it.

But A Night to Remember is really good! I just saw it recently for the first time and was surprised at its ability to move me being that I know a lot of the anecdotal stories. I think they did an incredible job with it. I feel that I'd be more inclined to revisit ANTR than the Cameron film.

I know this has nothing to do with movies/Blu-Rays, but like ShellOilJunior, I am also a long-suffering Browns fan and figured I'd join the commiseration. I hope the owner understands that the most loyal part of the fan base is becoming apathetic. I'm going to be incredibly disappointed if it's a situation where "coach is fired but GM and Business Ops guy stay".

To quote Gary Oldman from "The Professional" if asked who I want fired:

"EVVVVEERRRRYYYYOOONNNEEE!!!"

I'll spoiler the football chat, but
[Show spoiler]as a lifelong Bills fan, we always appreciate being able to look across Lake Erie and say "I guess it could be worse".

Anyone else taking advantage of the Criterion sale? I'm tempted to pre-order the late February stuff in case it comes out after the next flash sale.

Yes, i know about these and they're in my wishlist.
I have seen 13 Sirk films.
All that Heaven Allows is my favourite due to the stars and the winter-Christmas setting.

The 20% also applies to gift certificates, in case you want to "gift" yourself a 20% discount for the next sale

I would like to know as well. The only pre-order I have done is for Downhill Racer last week. I ordered on Nov. 30th and I was billed that day. But, it shipped on Dec. 1st so I don't know that that is a good indication of what they typically do.

Finally, somebody that doesn't go in the closet and pick two titles. I'd come out with a wheelbarrow full.

It doesn't, since the beginning of the sale.

Just watched Umbrellas of Cherbourg for the first time!
Such a beautiful film, and I had many hair-raising moments hearing the theme song.
I admit that hearing trivial and ordinary lines being sung at times, was a bit weird and funny.
I love musicals, and I love Evita too, but here, I don't know..Maybe I'd like it more if it was a regular musical with 6-7 songs in key scenes, and the rest was spoken dialogue.

I'd like to own this, but is there any chance Criterion releases a standalone Bluray?

I'd buy the French release which seems similar (has anyone compared it directly to Criterion as far as compression is concerned?), but the extras are not subtitled.

You've never seen Les Miz either? (The show, not the pretty bad movie form a few years back). It's entirely sung.

I wouldn't have seen Les Miz the show, since I live in Greece and we rarely get here such shows.
But I haven't seen the movie either.
I've seen Cats (live) and the Phantom of the opera (film).
Besides various operas of course.
Oh, and West Side storry (both show and film). Although I don't remember if it's entirely sung.
