We've got quite a few Samsung owners downloading this from mgo as we speak. I'll probably download it tonight. I'll post mine and others feedback when I get it.

I am not aware of any 4k screenings of the film. I if it was finished in 4k I SHOULD have known about it.

Oblivion was definitely 2k, pretty sure Prometheus was too. Not sure about the Counselor. It's easier to do a 4k finish when the film isn't full of CGI and VFX.

Prometheus 2K.

Wolski decided to shoot Prometheus with the Red Epic, which had just been released. He chose the Epic for its small size — “it’s a little bigger than a Hasselblad” — and 5K capability. Although he shot Prometheus in 5K at 5:1 compression (occasionally switching to 3:1 compression for scenes with very fine detail, like water or foliage), he notes that the original photography had to be converted to 2K in post to match the resolution of the visual-effects work. “On a movie with this many visual effects, going to 4K would have quadrupled the visual-effects budget,” notes Wolski.
The Martian: 2K Master

DOP Dariusz Wolski filmed The Martian on RED DRAGONs in 5K, shot in native stereo on 3Ality rigs (the film finished effectively in 2K).

The Martian bluray/UHD comparison will be very interesting, Fox may be playing naughty games here.

Same thing happened with DVD. Some newer titles did not get the best transfers they could of. This was obvious because there are DVD's that looked better.

Inception is one example. Absolutely terrible looking DVD.
